Geelong - Some of their fans even think they would match the Lions that went back to back to back.

West Coast are probably underrated. They lost both finals by a kick or less, with little to no impact from Judd, Cousins and Kerr.

Kangaroos don't have the skill to malke the top 4, when they did they were overated by having a chance of making the granny

-St Kilda don't have a forward line now with Gehrig retiring. They are still reliant on a guy playing his 21st season. With no depth and infighthing they are finished.
-Collingwood have no backline. Will be in the 8 but will no progress further without addressing their backline or their ruck problems
-Brisbane are going to improve but not considerably. They are very blue collar except for Black and Brown
-Port? Bring em on. They overachieved this year and are still a few years away from being a contender
-Freo? Ha! enough said..
-West Coke? Their midfield was their only real strength and has been significantly weakened by Judd leaving and Cousins is past it. Cannot do anything but go backwards when you lose a player such as Judd.

As for Geelong;
-Selwood barely played a TAC game in 2006 due to injury and was extremely good in his first year and will dominate next year. He will push for All Australian
-A fit Tom Hawkins and Nathan Ablett will dominate next year, given that Mooney takes the best defender. Hawkins did not have a proper preseason this year due to injury
-G Ablett, Bartel, Corey, Johnson, Kelly, Mackie, Chapman, Stokes are not even close to their prime yet. All still have huge upside, particularly G Ablett
-Rooke barely played in '07 and is ready to dominate in '08

Ling > Kerr
Bartel >>Cousins
Corey > Braun
Selwood > Priddis
S Johnson >> anyone West Coast wants to put up for comparison
Mackie > Hunter
Scarlett >>> Glass
Mooney >>> Lynch
Rooke > Stenglein
Ottens = Cox
Enright >>> Selwood
Chapman >>> Fletcher
Stokes >> Rosa

Egan, Harley, Milburn, Wocjinski, Hunt etc are all better than any comparable Eagles that are left. Add Tom Hawkins and Nathan Ablett with another preseason under their belts and how are the Eagles going to improve more than Geelong will

Oh please get over yourself, you win one premiership in a weak year and you think every member of the geelong side is the best in the league. All of you Geelong supporters believe that Geelong should be the Ausralian side by itself!

The funny thing is all the Geelong fans excuse everyones explanations of WC poor run due to injury as poor, but the fact is that Geelong fans are making excuses themselves, having to put down othersides just to make themselves look good. I know you can't excuse the fact that they had a brilliant season, but the team they beat by 119 points in the grand final is the same team that beat them in round 21 when they had injury. Bartel n Ablett or whoever it was with Bartel were the difference between losing, then winning against port by 119 points. If Geelong had carried those injuries through the finals they wouldn't have made the GF, only slipping by the pies

Id have to say the most over rated side this year was hawthorn, they totally lost the plot when it mattered, I mean they lost to the kangaroos!

So ifyou took the equivalent players out of the Geelong lineup. Bartel, Ablett, Corey and Mooney and returned Egan to the side - do you honestly think Geelong would have beaten Collingwood?

This was the one that got away for West Coast, but thems the breaks. Geelong deserved the premiership and they got it!

Excellent post.

We did get a bit of insight into it, Geelong at home lost to Port when missing just Bartel, Selwood and Ling they lost. Hate to have seen them without Mooney, Ablett and Corey!

Don't forget that game was dead rubber... We had already finished top of the ladder 2 games before that Port game from memory. Look at overall club season performances for accurate rating, single game comparisons is rubbish. We flogged the league in '07.

For me it has to be west coast, everyone especially their supporters seems to think that wce are some some sort of super team I mean for FFS you won one premiership using boring defensive slow down football in an even year and you left the finals in straight sets but wait for the excuses mainly we were injured. Even now after geelong have won the premiership by 119 pts wce supporters still claim there team is better than geelongs and would beat us despite how we beat them by 39 pts and finished 3 games higher but wait theres an excuse for that too.

WCE supporters grow up your team isnt even close to how good you think they are.
slow down footy ball im sick of people bad mouthing eagles. btw eagles are the most succesful club in the AFL since there introduction, what have geelong down choked every time they stood on the big stage.

reasons why geelong won the premiership not eagles
1. eagles 3rd most ingurys all year still finished 3rd
2. we travel over east every secondweek

And do you guys remember back in 06 when you couldnt even hold on to a 9 goal lead and the eagles didnt even have judd.

U R A D****

Reason why Geelong won the 07 flag and not the Eagles - Geelong are currently the best team in the comp and by a fair margin. That is all.

lol is this a joke?

Ill take a full fit west coast side over geelong everyday of the week.
LOL!

As for most overrated side, I don't know if anyone still rates the Bulldogs after their last 8 weeks of the season, but even after Round 12 when they had about 7-8 wins, people still thought they could make a charge for the top 4, and I couldn't understand why.

I have to admit the Saints are a little overrated. Even after as poor a year as we've had for a while, I always hear "Saints have one of the best lists when fully fit" and "the Saints' BIG FORWARDS!" whenever we string a few good games together. Otherwise, it's "sack Lyon, pathetic club, pathetic history".

Injuries played a part in our failure this year, particularly in the first half of the season, but our depth issues are much bigger and the fact we have only a handful of players who carry us under pressure.

I find that Sydney is way overrated by West Coast Supporters.

All thru the season, no matter how the Swans were travelling they had no doubt that Sydney would be up there challenging for the flag again.

When we were going along ok the comment by WC supporters was often...but wait until you play Sydney. Win the mid year encounter and then it was, but wait til you play them at the end of the year when they hit their straps. Win that, then it was wait til you play them in a finals. Win that then its, oh well they'll be back next year. They just had a bad game.

I understand they have a huge respect for Sydney but its way over the top. Many sides don't fear Sydney like they do.

Then after the GF, some WCE fans felt the 2007 final was boring and were saying WC vs Syd for 2008 GF. Nobody wants to see that. The love affair must end.

Great Post. These two teams supporters seem to have some sort of unnatural love affair with each other. It's because they each believe themselves so great and they have played some close games that they think the other must be nearly as great as them.

Congrats Geelong were the best side this year and deserved the GF win. Like the supporters of 15 other teams I look forward to next year and hope my team does ok.

Nah, soft is going up against a side that plays like witches hats. 05/06 were two of the toughest GF's in history, where both teams (not just one) fought til the very end. Only Geelong fans will disagree with me, but 95% of people would feel the same way i do.

Get ya hand off it

That is a really honest self-assessment there! :thumbsu: My hubby (a true blue Crows fan) has said the last few years, "sainters have the best list, they'll be there at the end of the pointy season" and then this year he added "because they have a real coach now". We know what it's like for injuries to stuff your season up, but I think with the list you had, you should have performed much better than you have.

How do ya think Geelong would have gone without Ablett, Bartell and Ling for most of the end part of the season?

No, it's more because the quality of the matches between these two sides have been so high with tough 4qtr footy being played by both teams. Everyone enjoys watching those types of matches as opposed to the sham that was the 07 grand final.

We get that Geelong won the flag on a record margin. Fans making posts about how West Coast and Sydney were overrated premiers just shows how long it has really been since you tasted a gf victory. Keep up the cockiness and hopefully it'll be another 44 years.
