Come November 25, Murphy will not only have a number of new teammates, he will also have a fellow number one draft pick on his team.

“I’m not sure who it will be but I do know they will be able to play. There are a few names being mentioned as potent ional number one picks, I’m just looking forward to whomever it is joining us a Carlton.” Murphy said.
“Well it’s gone pretty quick, people talk about the pressure of going number one, but I didn’t let it worry me. All I worried about was making sure I prepared myself as well as I could.” he said.

“The first half of the season was very different to the second half. I’d like to spend more time doing what I did in the first half of the season more often in the future. But as a whole I learnt a hell of a lot about football and the Carlton Football Club both on and off the field.” Murphy added.

A number of people, including Carlton Premiership player and coach Robert Walls have suggested that Marc Murphy should be appointed Captain of the Carlton Football Club in 2007.

“In the future I would definitely love to Captain the Carlton Football Club, it would be a great honour, but I am a bit embarrassed at people suggesting I would do it next year. I have played thirteen games; I still have a lot to learn.” Murphy said.

“I have been told Robert suggested that, he is someone I respect, I have had a bit to do with him especially in the second half of the season, he actually invited Josh Kennedy and myself to join him and Sticks for a game of golf, I am really looking forward to that now my shoulder is getting better.” he added.

Despite a new number one draft pick demanding attention in 2007 Murphy knows there will be still plenty of attention on him in his second year.

“Yeah there probably will be, I am just looking forward to getting out here and playing footy…I am sure Carlton supporters are the same. I can’t wait to get out there with the guys; we’ve got plenty of potential” Murphy said.

Murphy’s return to the senior side, as well as the return form an interrupted first season from Josh Kennedy and Paul Bower along with 3 selections in the top 20 in the upcoming National Draft excites Murphy.

“Thinking about it that’s pretty exciting isn’t it and when you throw in the like of Simmo, Fish, Waitey, Fev and Eddie that’s a very young list that is only going to get better it’s something to look forward to.” Murphy said.

In the meantime Murphy will continue his own training before he joins his team mates for an 8 week training program prior to the Christmas break. But Murphy’s Christmas along with a number of Carlton supporters Christmas may come a month early when the Blues unveil the Number One Draft pick on November 25.
Thank God he's a Victorian. :D :)

What a dead set legend. Exactly what we want to hear coming out of the footy club. Humble young guy who is just happy to playing AFL footy. BEst thing there is that he wants to stay and captain the club. That article needs to be back page of the paper tomorrow, get some positive news out in the mainstream media, but knowing our luck, it'll be a small article 8 pages in!!

Maybe Murphy is the way to go next year as skipper? Thoughts

I like the kid. :)

Obviously by not going to Brisbane he chose to be a Carlton man. He speaks with passion and enthusiasm for the future and will no doubt be in a leadership position someday.

These are the types of characters we need at the club to get us out of the hole. He doesn't owe the club anything considering he would have walked into any other club, yet he's stepped up and represents himself and CFC with great aplomb and positivety.

On the other hand, other players are only willing to bite the hand that feeds them. And considering no other clubs would have afforded them the same opportunities. What's the old saying , 'once a cheater, always a cheater'. I believe that probably applies here. Once the going gets tough, these players true colours will once again shine through. So good luck Hawthorn or whoever. We don't need weak players at our club.

What an absolute star-we are so lucky to someone of his calibre on and off the field at our club.

Will be a captain of the Carlton Football Club, it is just a matter of time. In 4 years, he will be captain IMO.
Yes, he will most likely be captain after Whitnall, in 3-4 years time.

Im looking forward to years of tremendous faith he will show the club.

IMO

Whitnall: 2007, 2008
Fevola: 2009
Murph: 2010-?
What's the point of having a captain for one year?

Elevate him into the leadership group in 2008, let him be vice in 2009 and take the top job in 2010.
