I download a song or 2 from an artist and if I like it then I'll go and buy the album. I rarely download because I live in rural South Australia and broadband is not an option to me. Also we only have 2 CD stores in the town, Sanity and Leading Edge Music. Yes Sanity are rip-offs $32 for Arcade Fire!! But there are the occasional good deals. I tend to order my CDs off the JB Hi Fi website. I am largely criticized here for buying my albums and asked why do I do it? Well there is nothing better than listening to a epic album from start to finish, I love album art, I love supporting the industry, downloading full albums is way to much of a hassle and buying CDs is like an obsession now.
I will add that my mate burns some CDs for me but if I were to buy every album I want when I want I can guarantee I'd spend over $200 a week. Now being a Yr 12 student with little time to work I don't have that kind of money.

If I find an epic album, I will get the vinyl. Just as like a collectors thing for me.

If there are any rich people out there, please invest and open a JB Hi Fi here (Mount Gambier) you won't be dissappointed.

Like I said before, don't post just for the sake of seeing your font on the page. Gosh, maybe you're just not mature enough to handle debate on this board. Should I direct you to a teen forum? Maybe there you can be around people who share the same maturity level as yourself.
When you say teens, I hope your referring to young teenagers (13-14).
Many people tell me I have a maturity beyond my years and not that I think that but being called immature just because I am at an age where I am labeled exactly that (immature) annoys and offends me. Yes Kerr hasn't been the most polite or mature contributor here I will agree, maybe you can just label him immature. I know you aren't directly referring to me in your statement but considering I am a teenager leaves me some reason to speculate.
Im not trying to start a war or anything I just want you to think about who else is around these threads. It is a minor thing to be offended over I will agree but I shouldn't need to get offended.
Sorry for starting something a bit off topic but I needed to let this cat out of the bag.

It would increase my satisfaction, in that I know that the artist would be fully compensated for his work, and thus would be further encouraged to pump out music I enjoy.

And that comment about my "big wig musician mates" is rather laughable, and completely irrelevant to my situation. Musicians in extreme metal (my preferred genre) make pennies, relatively speaking. Certainly not enough to manage solely on their craft for their livelihood.

The only reason they make the majority if their money through touring is 'cause nobody buys their albums anymore. That's no virtue that deserves mention.

And whoever's complaining that they don't want to pay full price for the album, or that they just want one song, well, tough shit. That's not how it works. If you want HBO, you buy the cable package that contains HBO, as well as a plethora of other channels. You don't get to choose a certain channel and exclude others.

As for others who think that the artists won't "miss a couple of bucks", who the f**k are you to decide that anyway? What the hell kind of logic is that? These people don't "owe" you music. However, YOU do owe it to them to purchase the album if you want the recorded rendition of the song.

An artist fully compensated for their work? do you know that the artist gets roughly 20 cents per cd sold?
That to me is a total rip off.
Most of the money made by musos goes to the corporates.

At least they get their money in the form of their record contract - which means not buying the CDs hurts the record company more.

Has anyone ever bought a CD from HMV for $36.99?

I always buy Cd's of bands I like. However, I often download off Limewire to check out bands I don't know very well or to sample new albums I am considering buying. If I like 'em then I am happy to shell out and support them.
Thats pretty much me. I've never downloaded an entire album in my life and if a friend gives me a burnt copy of something and i dig it, i'll always buy my own copy. I just really like having the actual cd in my collection.

And whenever i sample something i like the sounds of you can pretty much guarantee i'll purchase the whole album. My CD collection is out of control as a result.

I do like the whole download thing for finding b-sides, live versions or just hard to find stuff etc though.

I also buy a fair few cd's/dvds through Ebay. Probably not the best way to support the artist, but it does often save me a fair bit off the purchase price as well as often saving me the bother of ordering the more harder to find stuff.

I wasn't going to post again on here, because its quite clear I'm in the minority and no matter what I say, the majority don't give a ****.
I give a sh*t dude. I've just given up trying to fight that fight.

I love my cd collection. I think its a great window to anyone's personality and i love having mine on display when living circumstances allow. Its a great talking point with musically inclined guests.

I also find it pretty offensive that anyone would label me a "stooge" just because i choose to own the original copy of something. Why is collecting cd's any less meritorious than collecting vinyl or the like?

Each to their own though. Takes all sorts to make this world go round.

Personally downloading for free is great as it gives you a chance to hear other bands and decide if you like them, i also burn friends cd's for this purpose. However once I've decided I like a band I must buy their albums if I want to hear more of their music, as I don't think I can call myself a passionate fan of a bands music and yet still deprive them the $20 or so that they deserve for making me feel happy, sad, excited or inspired when i listen to their music. Getting into bands via the radio is too hard as only singles are played (generally) and it always feels a bit too commercial. I got into the John Butler Trio because I saw them on rage and wanted to hear some of their other stuff to see if it was as good and after downloading just 4 of their songs i decided that they were fanmtastic and have always bought their albums since. I also like the satisfaction of having the albums in my room and knowing I earnt it and am therefore setting out to buy my favourite bands every album, thus far completing the Living End set, halfway with U2 and nearly there with John Butler.
