11:53 p.m.: Just got home from work about an hour ago, still procrastinating on getting the copy ready for my CHFL preview content in Saturday's Ballarat Courier. Knowing that I have to get at least half the work done by 2 a.m. so that I can get the rest done by noon so we can go out to the game tomorrow night at Docklands, I'm staring intently at the "Start" button, hoping Microsoft Word will open by means of telepathy.

12:10 a.m. (Friday): Realising that bloody Word isn't going to open by itself of by means of telepathy, I open the damn thing and start writing.

Still, cannot resist the lure of BigFooty. So I come back periodically.

3,000 words! Phht!! That's easy. Just keep writing til your fingers bleed, then bandage up the cuts and keep going.

Try having to limit your copy to 300-350 words for the match of the season over here in one of the country footy leagues (that's my assignment tomorrow night).

Now THAT'S a challenge.

That's 350 words with quotes, thank you very much. And that's been cut down to around 400-odd words, due to the new format in the local paper here. Which I am still at odds with the powers-that-be over.

I read in New Scientist the other day that "Dr. Mary Simpson" from the University of Southern Carolina has just published a thesis on the same topic.

Isn't a thesis supposed to be original work ?
