Edit: Actually no. I think the reason why they go bald is because they can use their shiny bald pate as mirrors to reflect the sun onto the opposition eyes so that they can't see where the ball is.

Like all cuckoo theories, there is a germ of truth in relation to this- during the Cousins saga, there was an amusing instance where the AFL drug testers showed up at West Coast wanting samples, and he told them unfortunately it couldn't be done because he'd shaven everything.

They then indicated that hair from any, um, location, would do, and he indicated that he had shaven *everything*- they left sampleless, presumably with a clear indication of what a strange and frightening place metrosexual australa can be.

As to the wider conspiracy theory, yeah nah. Go to any gym, and you will see a similar breakdown- when you are playing a contact sport, hair is just one more thing to worry about.

For 'SOME' People ( Everyone has different Skin ).. and if you don't wash your hair , letting it dry hot & sweaty.aaa after every training session & Game can Create Head Sores in Hair and bad Dandruff.

Bald looks nicer than the Krusty the clown look or the sad comb-over.

They can get hair from your ear or nose, i don't think anyone is going to be waxing in every hair growing orifice. That would be a big admission of guilt.

Also throw in which team is the quickest and how that coorelates with bald/shaved head players - for the aerodynamic theory

And look at which teams are in the hottest cities when looking at that

Maybe players just think a shaved/bald head is easier to manage and more comfortable than a styled look, considering they would frequently be sweating throughout training and games.

a) The AFL have only had hair testing the last 2 (maybe 3 years but pretty sure its 2) and shaved heads have been around a lot longer then that

b) The tests they are doing are only for statistical purposes so why go to the bother?
