Love seeing the giants above the Suns.

Then why bother having anything at all? Start the season 3 weeks early if practice matches count for so little.
omg do you not understand? We need them for PRACTICE! Not a competition.[/quote]

You are clearly failing to see my point. If they are PRACTICE matches, don't promote them so heavily as if they count. The competition made sense to promote, because it had meaning and prestige, however limited. If PRACTICE matches are clearly for PRACTICE, not promotion, don't treat them like a competition.

No, i hate it. I demand the AFL return the pre-season grand final at once. Hawthorn and WCE rightfully deserve the chance to play off in the pre-season grand final for finishing on top of the pre-season ladder.

I don't like it. I enjoy multiple games on the same day. If one is boring, then flick to the other.

Organise a scratch match next week between yourselves then...

The 18 games in 18 days format was absolutely fantastic IMO, then one tune up match and we're off. They finally got it right

I just wish that the "one game per day" idea continued into those tune up games... so 27 games in 27 days.

Round 1 is split over two weeks, so sides could still play a game say on the Sunday or even the Monday night before Round 1 if they don't play their Round 1 game until 2 weeks later.

While we are on tha changes, the season is starting early to take air from NRL, but the NRL started this week.

Why not then start the season on labor day weekend and have a great fixture on the monday at etihad ?

Bulldogs v collingwood perhaps ? Or maybe the top docklands club v the top mcg club from last year

Thats either carlton or essendon v hawthorn

This format should've been implemented years ago. The NAB Cup was a vehicle for false hope; ask any Brisbane or Carlton fan who witnessed their team look like champions in the pre-season, then suddenly turn into s*** once the season proper started.

Pretty sure at least 1 of the nab gf teams have at least made top4 since 2000. More often then not most nab winners had a decent year.

Like others I've enjoyed the low key buildup you get with the current format, I always thought the NAB cup was a bit overblown and had a tendency to skew expectation, placing importance on matches that are just there for practice and building fitness. It's just enough to scratch that footy itch you start getting in February without overstaying its welcome, now I'm really looking forward to the season ahead.

The easiest way to make teams care more about the nab cup/challenge/ is to give away premiership points as a reward.

Winner of the nab cup gets 4 premiership points to start the season, should make a lot more teams take it a little more seriously

Just up the monetary reward, and pay it to the players

I know the purpose of the pre-season is to allow the clubs to tune up, and results aren't important or indicative of anything, but I always liked that there was silverware other than the Premiership attached to the comp. I don't think having a prize in the pre-season has ever diluted the merit of the Premiership in the season proper, and I have seen what it has meant to fans of teams such as St Kilda that won one during Premiership droughts. Heck, I even enjoyed seeing the Pies win it in 2011, just months after winning the flag, I know it's glorified practice but who doesn't like seeing their team posing for a photo with a trophy?

The format doesn't matter and 2-3 games is probably enough, so it could just be a league table with the 2 top placed teams playing off. I would love to see a pre-season Grand Final moved around the country to the expansion areas such as Tassie, Cairns, Darwin etc and have it attached to a national charity. In fact, call it a Charity Sheild like NRL and EPL have and play it in a regional area where fans can pack it out.

One thing that has me a bit miffed this year is that clubs kept playing more practice games after the "NAB challenge"18 games where over and they weren't considered part of the "NAB Challenge" Why were these games any different?

Agree. Should have been 27 games in 27 days.
