I wouldn't be too fussed if we lost either but if we could win without Riewoldt and Goddard that would be a big plus for us.

Hoping Stanley will be getting more game time and given a crack at CHF. If he plays well again he could just about pencil his name in for Rd.1. Wouldn't mind seeing McEvoy spend a bit more time up forward too as he looks quite good whenever he plays there. Would be good to see Lynch get a run too.

Does Stanley live up to the hype?
I have only seen a quarter or two, but he seems a very, very likely type.
And a bargain considering his late 2nd/ early 3rd round, (guessing), draft pick.

Who knows about Stanley. Has looked promising in his couple of matches so far this season. Will probably get more of a go at it this week with Riewoldt out.

Tom Lynch in is encouraging with rumours of him being fairly unfit when returning from the Christmas Break.

Hopefully we can have a win, but yeh not that fussed if we get done.

Late 3rd round, pick 47 in 2008

It was a hell of a draft.
So to get him at 47 was nice work.
Reckon the Saints did very well out of that draft, especially considering the picks we had to work with. Alistair Smith (62) and Stanley (47) have impressed this pre-season comp, Lynch (13) and Heyne (48) have shown promise at VFL level, Cahill (74), Simpkin (R29) and McGrath (NSW R84) could all be bargains.

And that's before you remember pick 13 in the rookie draft, a fullback formerly of Hawthorn.

Only time will tell. He has all the makings of being a very good ruckman/forward though. Bit of a late developer as he only just crossed over from basketball prior to being drafted.

Reminds me a lot of Riewoldt, has good pace and athleticism for his size (200cm) and apparently has been shadowing Riewoldt at training so he is obviously being groomed for a similar role. I'd expect him to have a crack at Riewoldt's roaming CHF role against Freo. Has shown good glimpses against Collingwood and Sydney so far but the real test will be to see if he can put his stamp on a game for 4 quarters.

I reckon he is in serious contention for a starting spot for Rd.1, if he can stand up against Freo he will be well and truly in the running.

if Kosi doesn't lift his game I'd put Stanley in instead. Let Kosi work out what he's doing in the magoos. how long can we carry him?

Only twice since we drafted Goddard have we been without both Goddard and Riewoldt in a home and away match - Round 19 2009 v Hawthorn (win) and Round 4 2006 v Port Adelaide (loss).

had not heard that rumour. i thought he was injured?

I saw Tom Lynch less than 2 weeks before Christmas and he looked in pretty good shape. I was concerned about Dawson at the time because he seemed to have lost weight, whereas everyone else including Lynch looked as if they had all put on muscle. Lynch did say he had a minor niggle but expected to play in the intraclub and even indicated that he wanted a CHF spot in it.

I can't comment on anyone's fitness state after the Christmas break but I doubt that there was enough time to atrophy too much...

It was reported that on Grand Final weekend, Zac Dawson was suffering from some sort of stomach complaint. Would that be behind his lack of bulk at this stage? Seeing him on Saturday night (on TV), I thought he looked particularly slight.

Depends on the severity of said complaint, but yes, if he cannot keep food down he obviously loses weight through that and the lack of then energy to complete a solid workload.

Different scenario, but Rheumatoid arthritis comes with a manner of appetite trigger where you can go days on a piece of bread and feel bloated or spend a day and eat 3 horses and still feel famished by the end of the day. Ont hose days you eat nothing to very little you obviously lack the strength or will to do much of anything yet on those days where you gorge you feel fanbloody tastic.

Equals out the weight though and so you ultimately gain sweet nada growth.

As an elite athlete you'd have to assume that if Dawson went through such a "scenario" he couldn't exactly gorge to then push ahead and meet goals since his food would be semi regulated and properly portioned.

Thought I'd heard that Zac did his shoulder sometime during the year, and carried a problem for the rest of the season (if it was operated on - haven't heard anything to this effect - might explain the lack of size and taking a while to get his touch back).

Would have thought the bug he had GF week was short term.

Sorry folks but it appears that turning up to Eddie hat stadium twice in a row is too bigger task and we are only sending the reserves. No McPharlin, Tarrent, Grover (no kp backs) no Ballentine, Mayne and Headland (no running forwards) no Sandilands (no ruck). Plus no Mundy

Really really disappointed that we are not sending a competitive team to give you guys a proper run. Preparing for round one and all that bullshit:o

Does playing on Eddie Hat stadium have that much of an negative impact on your playing list?

ST KILDA
29 Tom Lynch
28 Will Johnson
41 Paul Cahill
49 Steven Gaertner
Yes. Yes. Yes.

Pity about Smith, but can't wait to see how Cahill will go. Should be interesting night, especially without the German.

90 minute delay on Channel 10! That's worse then Channel 7.

Now you know what it feels like to live in WA, actually it's worse than that on Friday nights where we get a 3 hour delay.

Big blow for Freo if Sandilands is out, our ruckmen should dominate against Zac Clarke and Kepler Bradley. I heard that Tarrant went over on a seperate flight to Melbourne so I'd expect him to play. They will be very light on for key defenders if he doesn't play with both Grover and McPharlin already out.

Seeing as our Winner and Runner Up for last years B&F are out, I'm arguing that we have the bigger outs.

Yep, Freo in a canter.

Pav to kick 12 on Zac. McPharlin to dominate Roo, and Sandilands to eat Stanley and Gardiner.

Also, clams.

Who's going tomorrow? Most of the Saints fans I know aren't too bothered, but I'll be there. :)

Am looking forward to seeing some of the young guns in action.

I realise that this is a pisstake.
But I would be over the moon if you put Zac on Pav.

And yeah Plugger, it seems that Tarrant did go early and that Sandi is definitely out.
Will still be a good contest with our young fellas out to make a name for themselves.

On paper you should win it easily, but my gut says different.

Haha true, I imagine it would be Chips to take that honour.

I'd like to be there, haven't made it to a pre season game yet :( But yeah got a mates party.

Wouldn't mind seeing Cahill get a gig. Hopefully Lynch gets some game time too.
