Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere (Mods delete thread if so), but is anyone else feeling frustrated that QN is not playing regular senior footy? I simply cannot understand why he's not picked every week. Whenever given the opportunity he shows that he truly belongs at the level, and his trajectory of improvement is steep. He is our future, but he is also the NOW!

I fear that without the reward of playing regular AFL footy, he'll be looking elsewhere.....and there'll be a long list of clubs gagging for his services.

What makes this situation so much worse is that there are others getting senior games ahead of him that, IMHO, should not be i.e. LD (face palm emoji), SH. And even ZG seems to get more of a look.

Am I alone in these thoughts?

Yes he will.

Well, if the unfortunate does actually happen, I'd love to hear the reasoning from match committee as to how LD provides more benefit to the side (both now and future) than QN. And don't get me started on the financial situation between the two!

Not really frustrated with his absence when considering the current strength and depth of our midfield with those named in the 22 - last week a Dangerfield, Duncan & O'Connor returned to play in the guts, while tonight Guthrie was named in the side to face the Bulldogs

So looking at the strength of our midfield, I don't see who he currently replaces - but, hopefully see our veteran players managed as we play through the back half of the year and that should present a player like Narkle with opportunities to play and then you never know what will happen

Now a pretty hot team to force your way into. Unfortunately I think he'll be waiting for an injury or two to pop up before being selected. Good to see Higgins dropped. I'd hope that, despite playing differing positions, that the likes of Atkins, Kolo and Dahl are also under notice.

even if you believe the team is completely and utterly inflexible with positions it’s clearly Oconnor. Oconnor has only had one good half as a mid. Narkle has had 4 good halves in his last 5.

If you squeeze that one good half assessment of O’Connor any tighter it will literally enter the palm of your hand

Huh?

So you agree O'Connor was on top of Boak in the first half last week which counts as a good half

He then had the better of his opponents when we played Brisbane & Hawthorn, so that's 4 more good halves; he didn't have the best game against Melbourne but was good in the first half against WCE, so that's another good half to be credited to him

Also not sure what O'Connor has to do with Narkle - O'Connor's move to the midfield is about playing a run with/tagging role, and that's not a role we're going to see from Narkle so it's highly unlikely that one's keeping the other out of the guts

Players who Narkle should be ahead of in the team

atkins
dalhaus
oconnor
bews
menegola (on current form)
close

and don’t give me different positions. When you are Playing as well as he was then You rejig the team to fit him in.
He's going alright as well as soaking up plenty of game time to facilitate rotations.

The likes of Close, Bews, Atkins, Menegola & O'Connor aren't making way for Narkle, and with Miers playing VFL this week, he'd be one whose in with a chance of pushing Dahlhaus out of the 22

No way Narkle is selected ahead of the listed names - he plays his best as an inside midfielder when in the thick of it, so which inside midfielder are you shifting to make way for him?

If he is impatient and seeks greener pastures, like Caddy did, good riddance. He should be grateful to be in a position to break into our team, and Selwood will not be there forever

We could easily drop a defender to include him. Atkins being the most likely.

Good riddance??

I don't mind a little bit of ambition, as opposed to guys being comfortable and / or gifted games

And if Sparkle can't see the wood for the trees, i.e., that Selwood and Dangerfield's days are numbered as midfielders and that opportunity will present itself, then that's on him

See my last sentence.

higgins wasnt playing centre square yet somehow we have just replaced him with a centre square midfielder in guthrie.

Ducnan will play more half forward now that Guthrie is in and Higgins is out. What's a better combo?

Guthrie Mid and Duncan Half Forward or Guthrie Mid and Narkle Half Forward. Don't tie a noose answering this one, it's pretty obvious.

Shocking post

Careers don't last long. Don't blame any players who want to play senior footy sooner rather than later.
To us they might seem ungrateful or impatient, but for them there's not a lot of time for patience. It's their life.
Its not his fault or the clubs fault if/when he leaves. Just the way it goes.

But herein lies our most glaring and underlying issue. We have the oldest list in the competition. There were ten 30+ year old's who played in our last match. Five of whom are midfielders.
We have probably three standout youngling's coming through the system . . . Henry, Parfitt, Miers and possibly O'Conner? the rest are still finding their feet.

This is a really critical time to hang onto as many quality young players as we can. By end of the 2022 season, this team will be in re-build mode similarly to what we are seeing over at Hawthorn.
