DOUG ROBERTSON

April 05, 2009 02:36pm

POLICE have charged Crows star defender Nathan Bock with assault and property damage after a disturbance at General Havelock Hotel in Hutt St this morning.

The Advertiser understands the incident happen just after 2am.

Adelaide Football Club football operations manager John Reid released a statement today saying the club was investigating the incident.

He will not comment further until the internal investigation was completed.

Yea i've seen him out and about a few times and he's always been pretty relaxed, very rarely drinking etc. Must've been fired up after the terrible umpiring on Friday :p

It's probably a pathetic excuse of an assault - like Scott Welsh's a few years ago, all he did was hit a woman with his jumper.
The Advertiser is probably just blowing the situation out of porportion.
Bock always seems like a relaxed, down to earth guy, so I doubt he would ever assault someone without being provoked, but as usual The Advertiser only prints half the story (and of course, the half is damning a well known football player.)

also knowing SA police they would have loved to take a big name down.

Look at them tough on crime

I know a few people who have been assaulted on Hindley Street... the police weren't so interested in those cases. If its not big names, Bikies or speeding I don't think SA police really care.

I'm sorry, but you can't go saying things like that.

If your gonna take the line, attack the current Government for their stance. Don't for one moment believe Police don't care.

Is this the Adelaide board or the Collingwood board?????

He has been charged by police not investigated.

In a nutshell he is in trouble.

I like the bloke and hope there is nothing in it as he is a great player but how about a bit of honesty on this board!!!!

Don't fall for the same mistakes we did.

Agree, and bar the umpiring abuse this thread so far has been a bit irrational.

With the information we have now there's no reason to condemn nor support Bock.

Patience people!

probably glassed one of the umps

No court in the world would convict him if that was the case! You wouldn't be able to find 12 people who would be unbiased in that regard.

It does sound odd though, because he is a pretty quiet lad.

I know what you're getting at, but I know several cops who've stopped caring about certain offences/groups of people because they know that a shitload of paperwork for no result or a slap on the wrist just isn't worth it.

And as for Nathan, he's been charged, let's hold off the slagging until we find out what actually happened. Otherwise we're all Frank Pangallo clones.

Good point. As long as he plays till our last game and any sentence gets carried out in the off season :D

Makes you wonder however if he was charged was he locked up for the night?

FWIW he was in a fight at a pub it seems, he's hardly driving around with murderous bikies:rolleyes:

While at first I thought it would simply be him defending himself against some w***er who wanted to have a go at an AFL player, the charge of property damage in addition to the assault charge makes me think twice about that.

Seems quite out of character from what I have seen of Bock.

Don't be silly...

Some people have unnecessarily itchy trigger fingers in these situations, other's are unnecessarily defensive. Both approaches are wrong, but you have to expect that some supporters and non-supporters alike will be emotive in their response to this story.

Ultimately, looking at this situation in any way other than "innocent until proven otherwise" is an absolute waste of energy.

Pretty original comment

Funny how last week there were plenty of Adelaide posters on our board having a go at us because of the umpires telling us to get over it and now when you have lost a game the umpires are no good.

Hey i think Bocks a great player and hope this is all nothing but it does not change the fact that he has been charged so there must be something in it.

Assume nothing.

A mate of mine spent a night in lockup for "battery of a police officer". Sounds terrible, but all he did was push past them during a dispute, which other than that push, was a purely verbal dispute.

Property could be anything, from a car to a window or a bar stool.

I hope for Bock's sake you are right.

I'm watching the pregame and sitting on my PC. I think I got the bay 13 thread posted first.

Don't pretend it wouldn't be exactly the same if it were the other way around. You know it would.

maybe there would be 1 or two

not the entire Big Footy population like it is with the Power., I think the port trolls like yourself out number the crows trolls 10-1

They dont. I was assaulted in Sydney and due to my mental state at the time having just been beaten I said I would prefer to give a statement the next day and was told "Unless I make a statement now I cant make any statement and the person can not be charged". I later found out when I went to report the incident the next day that the cop was totally wrong. My opinion was he just didnt want to do the paperwork and his displayed attitude was basically - I dont give a rats!

Another incident with a friends drink being spiked, took her to the hospital and while there reported to police who said they couldnt do anything and not worth following up even though we told them we had a good idea who it was in the pub and they were still there drinking! Two good examples of cops not caring.
