On the way home from the match, I was interested to hear Browny named in the worst 3 (MMM best 3/worst 3). Might have been Spud Frawley judging. He based this on Nate gathering only 3 possessions and how much added pressure this creates for your fellow backs.

Nate's obviously a stopper - much in the Presti mould - and I've never thought this to be a problem. I'll always remember the brilliant job Nate did on Riewaldt in GF2. (I reckon Spud was talking him up that day.)

So would Bucks be happy with pure stoppage, or given Nate's pace and relative athleticism, would Buck's want more?

Don't think the footy went near a KPP for the whole game, did it. Anyone over 190cm was allergic to the leather - even Pendles caught a mild dose.

When you have Reid, Shaw, Harry, Russell, Clarke and Maxwell down back you don't need Brown to be the next Scarlett. As long as he stops forwards from kicking goals I don't care if he doesn't have any disposals.

Not all players can get 20 odd possies. I couldn't care less if Brown get's donuts every match if his main opponent doesn't get many. Presti was one of my fav players and did a great job for the Pies.

Agree with the comment regarding the GF 2. Brown didn't touch it often but had a great game.

Brown and Reid have been excellent so far this year. Negated everything in the air.

Like someone above said, he can have 0 possessions if he wants. As long as he stops his man, I'm happy.

I think it was Carey and he/they did say it was harsh to rate anyone in the worst players.
Forget Carlton for the moment, who was the least good Collingwood player?
Brown was probably up there somewhere. He didn't play poorly but it's not like he played on Franklin, or even Petrie. I'll take 3 possessions if he keeps Franklin quiet this week.

Presti got three on a good day :)

Very happy with his games this year.

In fact, iirc, hasn't he been involved in huge match-winning plays right at the death in both games.

And resulting in Sidebottom goals both times that iced it?

How many goals have his opponents kicked - think Petrie got a late consolation one, did the Carlton guy get any, not sure, anyhow he's been very good so far.

The bigger picture is people who should know a lot better, overrating pure kick handball marks stats, especially in the case of shutdown backmen.

Wet day, wasn't good for KPPs altogether. If there is one thing I'd like Brown to work on, it's how he gets pinged for holding.

He's a stopper like Presti, we don't need a lot of rebound from him. They probably just checked the DT rankings and based their call on that.

That said, wouldn't mind a bit more of 5:00

Most clubs would sell their soul for a key defensive pairing like Reid and Brown, if the Hawks had something similar they'd be unbeatable.

A full back's performance getting judged by a simple statistic like possession count is unworthy of much comment.

They forgot to mention that he didn't kick any goals either so he must be really shit!

He has fairly good last weekend, but I think Brown really should improve in his offensive ability. The carlton tall forwards were fairly ordinary so if he could provide some rebound and drive that would be a bonus but not a necessity.

I'd call it a poor game. If you are playing on the oppoaition's number 4 or 5 forward, which Brown was, you'd expect a bit more offensive output than he gave the team. if he's only capable of playing a very tight shut down role, he shouldn't play when the opposition have no suitable match up.

Id rather him play as tight as he can and restrict his opponent. He isnt there to rebound. Next thing he will start trying to be more offensive and get caught and have his opponent sneak a few goals. Such a fine line. Him playing the way he is now , is allowing Reid more flexibility

No touches is fine. If you play your style of game effectively, it largely doesn't matter what way you play the game and Brown sits in this bracket where while he is a limited player to an extent but he has grown into an excellent stopper.

Worse would be if Brown couldn't stop his guy 1v1 and we needed other defenders to give him a hand at every contest.

If you've got a number of guys who can also rebound then absolutely you can accomodate your Brown's and Toovey's as your pure stoppers.

To be fair to Carey, he did preface the W.O.G. votes by saying he didn't want to do it, as everyone that played was awesome, so he gave Brown the 3, simply for being lowest.

He gave Toovey 2, because he was Walker's man early on, and gave Kade Simpson 1, because he kicked out straight to Macaffer(???)
