At their best, who would you rather at your club.
For me it's Buckley only just. He was one of the most consistent performers I have ever seen and was a brilliant leader.

Buckley for me......obviously. The reason why is that he was so consistant in a shit side and would be tagged super heavily n still rack up 40 quality touches. Taking nohing away from hird, but i still think bucks would be recognised as a great even more so if he had of been part of the essendon sides of the late 90's early 2000's

Its been done to death, and most times Hird has won comfortably.

Both champs but James Hird for me.

yeah i'd too say hird, he could just do things that i dont believe i've seen anyone else do before. Buckley was a fierce, superb player, with great skills, but hird was just amazing in some of the things he could do.

Only Collingwood supporters and a few Carlton say Buckley, the rest say Hird. And why do people keep saying these threads, they are so repetitive, just like Hodge VS Judd.

Over a career Buckley because he has maintained such an outstanding consistency over so long. He is the prototype player.

Fundementally he is the best player the game has seen in a long time, and by that I encompassing the package of skills, disciplne, consistency, longevity, physical gifts, leadership and just having the ability to do every facet of the game so well. Bucks could play any position and dominate.

Hird was always a feel good story, coming back from his injuries. Hird was 'freakish' in some of the things he could do, whereas Bucks was a machine of a footballer. Hird always played the big game when it mattered (not to say Buckley didn't he just never got the chance). He was supremely inspirational. Hird was mercurial, more capable of lifting his side with a brief moment of pure yet so subtle and simple magic, thus for a game I would take Hird.

In terms of being a prototypical aussie rules footballer, Bucks is streets ahead of anyone.

Buckley for mine, because he's the type of player I could build a team around over a decade, and I prefer the type of player he is.
