People need to breathe, the fact the club is only sending it's physio and not docters and surgeons or Jamie Cox shows its not serious.

It's purely an opinion to see if there is anything further us or Nathan can do. we are talking about people who got Max rooke and Dylan Grimes on the park consistently. If anything,we should have sent him earlier

The VW guy's will sort him out.
He'll get fitted with a GPS device that will indicate 50% overspeed and 100% overtravel.... Sorted!

Really guy's. The kid is being sent to Germany to consult with experts.
Worth spending $10k on trying to get him right?

Over-reacting much. Moving right along...........
With vee dubs recent history, perhaps not a good move.

Why would we write him off already? He's a super talented kid who's contracted for another two years.
If he gets healthy we've got an important member of our midfield, if it doesn't then what have we really lost...? A second round pick and some spare cash.
I keep saying it but to compete with GWS in two years time we needed to take some calculated gambles. I'm still very hopeful Freezer can get back to full fitness and confidence in his body, and I'm willing to give him most of next season to make significant inroads before I start to question his future in the game.
Agree we should keep working on giving Freeman every chance but still don't get why we haven't rookie listed him. Doesn't sound like he will be fighting for a senior list spot all year. On the other hand NOK looks like he might. Can't see any other club picking him up in his condition and on his salary.

We would need to check the results carefully. Failure to be named in the team could end up in an omissions scandal.

Then again, if recent history is indeed indicative of the outcome, Freeman's form could soon be smokin'

Yes, a second round pick, which was too high a price in the first place for a kid with such a chronic injury history. Nothing we've seen so far has changed that conclusion.
I guess the way I view it, is after this trade period we got picks 23 and 36. So if Hawks finish around 7-10, we are getting those picks for nothing.

So we can view both Freeman and Steele as free hits. If they make it it's a big win for us!

As a mate of mine keeps saying to all and sundry......getting N.F was a high risk with the potential outcome of a very high return.

I admit mid season that I was thinking...ummmm..."what have we done"

I would back the club in anything they are doing regarding N.F......surely they would have thought if things don't quite go to plan they would then seek expert opinion from overseas sports experts..

Don't forget that we sent Hickey ......I think at the end of the 2014 season....to a specialist in Harley St London ....for expert advice on his chronic knee I think it was.
At the time I thought....it's worth the trip if he comes good.

And gee....we all know the Hawks now have their high risk recruit which could possibly turn into a disaster for them.

Time will tell with this and also N.F.

Dunno if I'd call it high risk though, a pick in the 30s isn't that high a price to pay if we thought we could get him back to his best, as the attributes he had pre injury would compliment us perfectly.

I probably should've worded my post a little better......my mate meant risk as in N'F's chances of ever coming completely good....not so much in what we gave away to get him.

I've got everything crossed that he does in fact come good.

Imagine he gets it right and comes and burns it against the pies out the guts
I will laugh myself silly

That's my dream , plays a blinder against them and all their supporters will have a go at their decision makers, lol.

I'm personally somewhat surprised that some thought this year would be anything but a write off and slow build for him.

I'm not entirely optimistic that he will make it, but I really hope so, for him and our team.

Worth the (educated) gamble IMHO.

At least the kid is still confident as is the club. Even if it takes another two years he will still only be about 24 -25 and if he's back to his best watch Eddie whinge that we would have paid more for him . It was always going to be a risk but it is worth it , getting a top ten pick for not very much at all . I look at Geelong who kept hoping that Menzel will get through his knee troubles and now they have a good player who is only going to get better over time.

He'll be 23 in two years.

I'm surprised it took this long after we admitted our initial plan failed. I actually feel a bit more confident now.
I think saying the plan failed is unfair. he played more football for us this year then he did in the last 2 at the pies.

Just to excite everyone, ask any stkilda listed player what they think of Nathan and they will tell you he is a freak a gun.

Instead of reading through most of this thread, whats the general guess as to when we expect him to get a run in the AFL again?

Round 1? No idea? Round 20?

Based on what's been said, sounds like second half of the season is the earliest it could happen, given he has to find some form in the twos first. This year he played one good game in the thirds and the rest of his Sandy games were underwhelming, so just because he's fit doesn't mean he's ready to go.

I wonder if Freeman has gone to Germany for a final check up to determine if the pre season training program matches the state of of his hammies. If its anything other than that I wouldn't think its a good sign.

Anyone know when pre season actually starts this year?
