Also just on freeman. He was at every session before this setback. Didnt take much of a break and worked through especially at trade time he was at seaford working out daily He is as fit as any of our blokes. Won't miss much training

Look.

There are only two options here.
  1. This is yet another example of how stuffed Nathan's hammies are. It's been called a slight twang, but if you talk to a Pies supporter, they'll tell you his history is littered with "slight twangs". He's been the equivalent of our old "Aaron Hamill - 2 weeks" his entire career. In which case, he will most likely be a bust.
  2. A slight twang is actually really, well, slight. But because of his history, they are playing it over-cautiously, and as such any minor injury will be managed as if it's a major one, as part of rehabbing him into having healthy hamstrings. In which case, he'll probably get better and be a steal.
Which one is it? There is absolutely no way of knowing. We can ask the Club, the docs, the physio, the ITKs, until we're blue-in-the-face. If it's option 1, they're going to lie (which let's face it, sometimes they do); and if it's option 2, it's the same answer as if they were going to lie. So we can't tell.

There is nothing left to say then. We just have to wait.

I think even if if was a full blown hammy, the club would have played it down it down as the uproar would have been huge considering the membership drive that they are pushing.

Why are we talking about the Carlisle vid in the Freeman thread?

Any news on how bad the injury is?

Supposedly a minor strain in a different (previously fine) part of his hamstring...

Which is good and bad news.

It could be worse...or it could have just gotten worse.

If the saints start talking about teaching nathan new ways to run to avoid hamstring injuries - he's cooked. It doesn't work.

Running style is so instinctive and ingrained by the time you're an adult - no chance of changing it under match conditions.
(running around the training track with time to think about how your legs are moving is a luxury you don't get in a game)

The hawks tried it with cyril and we tried it with jesse smith- both failures unfortunately.
I think the tigers might have tried it with cousins too?

Sure cyril has had a better hammy run lately-but that's because he hasn't been playing full-time mid.
He broke down like clockwork when playing as a mid, even after they'd supposedly changed his running style.

Glass half full peeps saying its a slight strain and with it being so early in the pre season it shouldnt be a problem.

Glass half empty peeps saying his hammy is a piece of shredded beef and our clubs stupid for drafting him.

Me personally , im just gonna keep filling my glass up with beer and emptying it and ill wait and see what happens in the long run with Freeman:thumbsu:

I have always looked at Freeman as 'bonus' territory. Worth a gamble. If anyone thought he would waltz in and have no further issues, then they are deluded. It has sounded like he has been making progress, but it might be a season or two before we get something. And then we might not. Losing a second rounder next year was worth a 'look-see' given his potential.

Let's wait and see. Good luck to the kid.

I was the same but thats why I wanted to give a third rounder for him. A second rounder for him is a lot for a speculative roll of the dice. We should send him off to a specialist to get him right. His qualities are just what we need.

I hope more than anyone here that the kid turns out to be a top 5 player on our list. The only trouble that I see with this is that as reported was on a modified training program when this occurred. Now I would be less at ease if the bloke was running 110km/h and twanged it than being on a restricted program. As others have said this is a boom or bust kind of trade and over the last 3 years there are some very very good payers available mid to low 20 in the draft. If we gave our 3rd then this would be a non issue as that is more of a speculative pick.

Hope the recovery is well and we see the kid running through the middle kicking it from 50 in the big dance.

Hope club did "due diligence"
He has a brother who plays local footy who's hammy is shot as well
Apparently they did, but with reocurring injuries it's hard to tell if they can be sorted out. Some people get over them and some can just never make it onto the park.

Except you have no idea what he was doing when he did it. He could have been running at 100% effort for all we know.

When Rioli was having all his hammy troubles in 2014 the Hawks changed up his rehab so that he was doing 100% effort runs in it. They acknowledged that it would increase the chances of an incident at training, but that at least in the controlled environment they could manage his workload and it would get his body used to working at that level. This appeared to work perfectly as he played 20 H&A games for the first time in 3 years and only the 3rd time in his career.

I fully expect that we would be doing something similar with Freeman.

I choose option 2.
