I didn't knwo it was possible to have a hammie strain that bad?! Even tearing a tendon off the bone doesn't take nearly as long!?How many more VFL games left this year? 2 years out with a Hamstring injury.. what a ******* joke

But we are in new territory in the modern game. 30 years ago you never heard of a hammy.15 years ago a hammy was 3 weeks. Now we have season ending tendon hammys. Players are driven to the edge in the modern game and much like an F1 car they become fragile as more and more weight is stripped away and more and more power and speed is added. The modern game is unprecedented and injuries are a dynamic system that we are struggling to learn on the trot

Remember he had surgery, he didn't necessarily do his hammy this year.

It's a really interesting circumstance. I personally don't remember a single footballer in AFL history that has lost the better part of 2 years (perhaps the most important 2) from one major soft tissue injury so I wonder what the upshot of his predicament will mean for the medical/ sports science team?..
Especially on the back of Reid's continuing ailments, ditto Sinclair, Oxley's ankle in 2014, Broomhead's recent shoulder injury and Maxwell's ankle last year. Our injured players take longer than any other clubs to get up to speed at VFL level and then don't return anyway so it's a real melon scratcher!

The only thing we know for SURE and that NONE of it is the clubs fault.
Even suggesting that around here gets you chased with a pitchfork![]()

It's hard to believe he was drafted in 2013 and it's looking like 2016 before he plays a game.

Perhaps it's in the delivery? The more sarcasm you throw in the less the rank and file pitchfork brandishing Pies poster will be able to lockdown on any negativity
I'll give you an example. Nick Reiwoldt strained a calf and played the next week against Richmond (not to shabbily I might add) after already tearing the same calf earlier this year. Ben Reid cramps at VFL level and misses the next 3 weeks yet no one batted an eyelid because its easier to sit back and say "oh well it's Reidy he's always injured". It's pretty disappointing, IMO.

It will be interesting to see how long Cloke will be out for.
I agree your previous post - Ramsay's injury is absurd, what was meant to be a week or two out with a sore shin ends up being a year long injury. I've never seen anything like Freeman either.
Something else everyone forgets
Luke Ball does his ACL - sent back onto the field (first time I've ever seen or heard of that happening)
Abbott does his shoulder (needs reco) - sent back onto the field
Tim Broomhead does a serious shoulder injury (might need surgery) - sent back onto the field
Ben Sinclair carefully managed for 3 quarters of game time - sent onto the field in the last because the game was in the balance and ends up missing the next 1-2 weeks.
There are many other examples too, like Cloke coming into a match with a dodgy calf then tearing it in the first 5 mins.. but hey, we could go on forever and it's beyond doubt anyway that the Collingwood medical staff are simply beyond question (because we don't have medical degrees).
And that's my rant done for the day![]()
You do live in the perfect world of hindsight where nobody makes a mistake.
Unfortunately the club, coach and medical staff do not live in this world. They can only act on what they know at the time. They do not have the benefit of being able to sit back and go 'gotcha' every time a perceived mistake is made. Oh to be able to live in your world.
I wish that was what it looked like. It's hard to believe he was drafted in 2013 and it's looking like 2016 before he plays a game.
I reckon we have done our dough on him. He is finished before he has even started. Of course, I am not a great optimist at the best of times, let alone the worst. As for Reid ... at least we got some games out of him before his body disintegrated.I wish that was what it looked like.
So I've managed to change your stance from "la-la-la the club is always right" to "well mistakes happen, so what?".. It's progress I guess.
I used to like Manic Magpie's posts? Separate account cancelled by you?I reckon we have done our dough on him. He is finished before he has even started.
