What a lottery the draft is. We take the Dom Sheed or Patrick Cripps (drafted after Freeman) and we'd reckon the recruiters were total genius material. Seems the 2013 draft was quite strong and not a good one to get wrong. Hasn't shaped as particularly successful for us just yet

If Scharenberg comes on as hoped then we've definitely done well, regardless of Freeman's output, because of the pick-ups of Langdon and Marsh. I agree that it would have been nice to get those two in hindsight, but neither are list fits, and whilst it may have stopped us from recruiting Greenwood and drafting De Goey, I'm very happy with them and if we didn't pick up De Goey we probably would have ended up with one of the outside types from last years draft who aren't looking nearly as impressive.

Out of all the players out of contract, this is probably the last big one for us.

I think we need to sign him. I wouldn't pay overs for him, but do think it's important for us to at least retain him.

Club disapointed in him and his manage but still think he will stay but will not alter the offer. I think we need to cut the kid some slack.

1. He probably is looking at it from the point of view of, 'if I had not got injured', sill but..............
2. He may feel the club has played a role in his injury predicament and that as such we should look after him
3. Maybe he is really worried that he will never be able to play to his potential and wants to make as much off what might be his last contract, as he can.

All understandable if you were in his shoes.

If he actually thinks number 2 is the case I would be cutting him on principle alone!!

Number 1 nah professional athletes never focus on what's been and 3 is understandable.

2 years with a hammy is a long time, I would suggest there was a mis diagnosis along the way. It happens, its part of sport/medicine but you would still be a bit pissed.

No sweat suggest what you like because I'm just about the biggest critic of our sports science team on this board, however I assure you if he dedicated himself to his rehab as thoroughly as Shaz he'd have played seniors by now.

He cut corners and didn't treat his body like a temple so again 2 doesn't wash with me.

Interesting, I got completely the opposite vibe from him, (may have been influenced by other posters).
I thought he was a fitness nut.

Yeah that is the other side of it, I had not heard he had cut corners. What just lazy with his rehab?

On the track yep. Off the track not so much.

If he goes I'll be disappointed not so much of him, but that it was a waste of a top 10 pick.
Cripps was two picks later :(

That's really surprising. I've always been told the kid was a complete health/fitness nut. Baffling that he would cut corners like you're suggesting. I can only assume you've gotten this info from your source.

Great bloke, went to school with him, still remember the look on his face when he knew collingwood were grabbing him; by far his least favourite club and apparently still is. Will be playing for St Kilda next year take it to the bank.

So is the rumoured $250k accurate?

Cripps would have been a great get but Freeman fit a list need at the time; break neck break away pace. We've lost two years but it's only a waste if:

A) we can't salvage a half decent deal that can land us a player of equal value (Aish); and
B) He goes somewhere else and excels (no guarantee based on injury history).

I remember at draft time I couldn't split Shaz or Aish. Trading Freeman may enable us to end up with both eventually. :)

He's real big in the upper body for a kid his age - anyone remember what happened to Bucks towards the end of his career when he hit the gym hard one pre-season and came out a lot bigger than he'd been previously?

Seems like a mild case of deja-vu to me...

Interesting fact he was actually a diehard rugby league supporter growing up, barracks for the sharks.
That says it all, a Gallen fan, don't want.:drunk:
