and under slightly different circumstances with Hawthorn wanting to get the best deal rather than caring about the player's demands

Yeah, but that was more than 10 years ago. Trades work differently now. (And man, you guys dodged a bullet on Stevens.)

Line in the sand time. His little w***er manager has obviously helped this along saying you will get to St Kilda. How about we refuse to trade this spoilt **** wit and force him into the Pre Season Draft. Would laugh if he ended up at Carlton or Brisbane. I would rather see that than a pick 30..

I think you're asking and answering your own questions Berger..."Why would Melbourne or Essendon leave an empty spot on their list just on the off-chance that Freeman will be available to them?.....ummm because Essendon or Melbourne would love (and probably need) another top 10 draft pick for nothing in the PSD??....now he's come out so early and said he wants a move, if their trade departments aren't all over any kind of chance to get him, then they aren't doing their due diligence.

The problem for them is, like Luke Ball six years ago, Freeman can just refuse to do a medical with them and then they'd be pretty brave to pick him up.

Should be. Freeman had something none of our mids have which is that turn of foot. We need to chase someone with some pace.

Is turning your foot a part of the rehab for a hamstring injury? If it is, I imagine that he is our most experienced foot turner, particularly with Young having already departed.

What? Why? This is a negotiation between two parties with unequal negotiating positions. I'd compare it to similar situations:

O'Rourke: originally pick 2, played 9 games, wanted out, result: pick 18 (equivalent)
Polec: originally pick 5, played 16 games, wanted out, result: pick 28 (equivalent)
Longer: originally pick 8, played 9 games, wanted out, result: pick 21 (equivalent)
Jaksch: originally pick 12, played 7 games, wanted out, result: pick 27 (equivalent) along with Whiley
Docherty: originally pick 12, played 13 games, wanted out, result: pick 33

But most of these guys were higher picks than Freeman, and all of them had played more games. So as a guide I think it's definitely 30+.

If we offered freeman a higher contract than you guys did, rate him highly internally and paid him a wage to do rehab what's makes you think we will give him to you for a second rounder. I guarantee you that we will get a pick and steak knives or a player direct. Maybe even your first and second rounder for freeman and our pick.

You also need to keep in mind that we will play hard ball with your mob.

Out of curiosity, if guys like Treloar and Freeman publically announce that they want to be traded to just one club, what happens if they don't get traded. Can they even nominate for the draft. Isn't it effectively draft tampering. Eg prospective draftees can't let the world know that they only want to end up at one club.

To the contrary there is nothing stopping Brisbane getting Freeman in the PSD.
And yes he has to go! As AFL rules stipulate.
The Lions would be stupid not to pick him up for nothing.
If Stlkida dont come to the party, he can well become part of the Aish deal if he likes it or not!

Which players would you be happy taking (realistically)?

How? You can't force Freeman to sign a contract.

No, he doesn't. He just can't play for anyone else. Doesn't have to turn up to the club if he doesn't want to though.

You simply asked when has it ever happened giving no disclaimer about the last 10 years.

While the Veale loop hole has been closed, the trade with Nick Stevens is no different to how trades work now. Port and us couldn't come to deal and in the end Port decided they'd rather get nothing instead of accepting an offer they considered junk in return. Ultimately despite the huff and puff and demands from saints fans Collingwood have exactly the same right in refusing to trade Freeman as Port did with Stevens.

In terms of Stevens looking at his performances we probably did dodge a bullet, but then again a neck injury in '06 meant he couldn't really train much.

You're right.

If Freeman has nominated St.Kilda, we'll have little choice but to deal with them.

Note Pie fans: we've been making the same argument to Richmond supporters re Treloar for the past three weeks.

How come every trade thread ends up a shit fight between the 2 clubs supporters? Last year everyone was bagging Lions supporters. Couple of weeks ago it was tigers supporters. Now it's saints supporters. Are we playing the jilted lover card? Trade him off & move on. Certainly not the end of the world.

Correct however does he love Stkilda that much that he will not play football for a year or 2, if he gets picked up by the Lions in the PSD.
Even then he will have to renominate for the draft , and again there is no guarantee you will pick him up.

Because most supporters come in with subtle trolling and arrogance about the situation repeating the same stupid shit over and over again. This one is no difference.

I generally agree with your thoughts.

St Kilda are in the stronger negotiating position so the deal is likely to be better for the Saints than the Pies.

Pick 2 would be fair.
Pick 3 would be pointless for the Pies so in that case we may as well send him to the PSD.

I think it will end up Pick2 and a swap of late picks or something as a sweetener.

Why get fired up over it? Who cares? We aren't negotiating his trade & neither are they.
He hasn't done anything at our club to get worked up about him leaving.

Why would the Lions waste a list spot on him if he swears black and blue he won't play for them? Not worth their time.

I reckon we'll have a pretty good draft pick next year!

I think we should encourage reasonable posters on to our board to discuss trades. It gets a bit repetitive otherwise.

I don't think this latest Saints poster has been unreasonable in any of his thoughts or suggestions. (So far)
