Fyfe has won 2 MVPs and would have 2 Brownlows if he didn't miss 4 games to suspension in 2014.

Anyone comparing Dusty's 2017 to Fyfe's 2015, Fyfe had 100 coaches votes after his first 12 games in 2015, that's over 8 on average. Dusty has 53 after 11 which is amazing in itself but doesn't compare to Fyfe's 2015 before the Mitchell incident.

Fyfe's game is at his best when he is explosive, strong in the contest and jumping high. He clearly doesn't have that athleticism this year so obviously Dusty is playing better in 2017.

The AFL will be poorer for it if Fyfe doesn't return to his best.

Martin doesn't do anything that a lot of players can also do. Martin does it very well, but it's still not unique.

Fyfe is a unicorn (at his athletic peak).

I don't get posts like these. It's getting bumped because the status quo has changed. Are we not meant to bump threads with changes and updates as they happen? In previous years (particularly Fyfe's Brownlow year) the majority would have taken Fyfe over Dusty but based on 2017's form the consensus seems to be that Dusty has the edge over Fyfe. Maybe Fyfe has another gear or is yet to hit his peak, maybe he'll never reach those lofty peaks again after his injury; who knows but it should be an interesting discussion.

Its your typical response from a Melbourne supporter. The unfair loss to us is still very raw for them so we need to cut them some slack.

Anyways. Fyfe is playing a completely different role this year. He's blocking more and doing a lot more body work when he's done before in the congestion which indicates he's not in 100% shape. As long as he gets through this year fine he'll come back next year to close to his best

I'll bump this again but even still, Fyfe has been better since this post and overall over the Journey. After all Fyfe has done everything Martin has done and more. And if you think about it Fyfe has been part of 5 finals series...Dusty hasn't had any of that sorta success at Richmond, hell we haven't even one a final since 2001!

I think they are about even. Fyfe has been curtailed by injury and Martin has taken a while to get his mojo back after the success of 2017. But Martin's last half of 2019 saw hims back to his best, so it will be very interesting to follow the two next season. Fyfe is probably more dominant as a midfielder, but Martin can swing forward and kick a bag that Fyfe can't (or doesn't yet).

All this comparison is well and good. What would help sway my mind is whether Fyfe has left his car in the MCG car park for months after a game.

Both guns. Fyfe is a better mark. Very little imo between them otherwise. Both are unstoppable at their best. Fyfe at his best is unstoppable as he can take a good pack mark. Martin a better kick in play. Hence I’ll go with Martin (as I take off my yellow and black reading glasses).

To me this hits the nail on the head. Fyfe gives his all pretty well every week, whilst Dusty is known for periods of going "walkabout", case in point, the start of this season.

Alot of footy supporters have short memories, they remember this finals series, but are vague about past finals series, where players have performed. I suppose that is a human trait, remember what is front of mind.

I said a couple of years ago, if you put a gun to my head and told me 'choose', I'd pick Fyfe. I think it's even closer now, and I'm not going to rubbish anyone's opinion (mine is the only one that is 100% correct ). I just don't know now.
