Just heard on TFS, that he will be exploring his options. Will be absolutely shattered if he leaves the MFC. He bleeds red n blue and his passion and commitment makes footy worth watching.

He's a massive surfer so maybe the GC is an option?

Don't go Jonesy!!!

Re: Nathan Jones rumor.

Will be reaaaallllyyy sh*t if he leaves. Not happy. :thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

Re: Nathan Jones rumor.

I heard that report from whats-his-face, sounded like he was fishing a bit. Didn't have much substance to it other than stating the obvious factors in Jones' career atm.

Re: Nathan Jones rumor.

I actually heard that last week from the same source that told me Jamar would miss the Richmond game (for the record, he was in hospital all week).

I would be very surprised if he left though. He seems to really love the club, but maybe he's looking over his shoulder and seeing guys like Blease and Tapscott who haven't even debuted yet and thinking he might be better off somewhere else.

Re: Nathan Jones rumor.

I don't think he wants to be a tagger, and really after watching his efforts it isn't his go. Same said about him being trialled off a half forward flank. He could probably go to Essendon were he'd be a starting centre square mid, besides that I think he'll stick it out and find his role in team. He only needs to find that elusive small improvement to cement himself.

Re: Nathan Jones rumor.

Sad to say that if he is to ever consider it now is the time to go he will get paid way above his worth and as has been mentioned can go before others go past him or he loses value.

Re: Nathan Jones rumor.

good point about his tagger role master bate, he played that role a few times this year. I hope in actual fact it wasn't bailey moulding him into a tagger, but rather saying 'right, I'm going to put you on the Abletts, Harveys, Dal Santos, and you see how they play.' i.e. a learning experience.
From his twitter he seems settled here, girlfriend, friends, still gets to surf here, so hopefully he doesn't go. with guys like petterd signing surely it would be even more indication to stick around.

Re: Nathan Jones rumor.

If he's not happy with his position, his attitude should not be to leave the club, but to work hard and show the match committee that he is the best man for his preferred position.

It took Dunn ages to find his place in the team, but now that he has, he is producing great results for the club. Jonesy just needs to be patient and work hard on the track.

Re: Nathan Jones rumor.

Funny how a lot of this board says he's surplus to our requirements and won't get in our 22 in a few years time yet now there is suddenly a chance he'll leave and all hell breaks loose.

For the record though, I definitely don't want him to leave. He won't be a star but he could still turn out to be a very good player. We'd only get what, pick 40ish in return for him anyway?

I'd only want him to go if it had something to do with snaring something of genuine need (KPF/ruckman). Be a pity if he left but it could be a win-win.

the guy lives and breathes melbourne, he aint going anywhere. on TFS, as sam newman called him, STARSKY, seemed to be fishing, just kind of threw it in there at the end. the bloke is only 21, but already a fairly solid unit. a solid pre-season again will see him fit and firing after his injury last week. love the guy he's a massive contributor and a role model for the younger players as a tough, hard-nut player

As far I understood it Barrett said Jones was unhappy with his role or future position and wanted to talk to Bails about it.

No biggie, really. I'd be concerned if a player had a problem and didn't have a sitdown so both sides could explain their POV.

Geez some of you guys can be fickle. Last week most of you were ready to offer him up for trade and now the rumor goes to air about the possibility of him leaving, you are all up in arms.
For the record I have always been an admirer of Jonesy and would hate to see him go. He gives us that toughness around the ball.

The first thing i thought when i opened this thread would be, he wants to be traded so he can play as a ball winning midfielder as opposed to a tagger. Honestly i think Jones will be apart of our best 22 next year, but boderline and possibly out of it come 2012.

Mckenzie stepped up this year he has taken jones spot as the inside mid, the difference being Mckenzie knows his limitations and handballs a lot to team mates in a better position without trying to take 2-3 players.

Would be disappointed to see Jones go, but wouldn't be a huge loss. All the best to him i say, if he wants to go to another side and play as a ball winner.

I dunno if that was directed at me but, I like Jones myself. I'd prefer if he stayed (just to clear the air if anyone was wondering)

Nah not directed at you, more directed at the posters who have previously bagged the bloke

Yeah, strange one. I spoke to the guy last night at the B&F and he sounded like he was sticking around. Great bloke too.

I honestly wouldn't be too shattered if he left the club. I'm not sure if it's his fault or Bailey's where Jones is at right now. He is a great endurance runner and is hard at the ball, but turns it over too regularly to be damaging. His time as a tagger for mine, hasn't really worked either. With Moloney, Sylvia, McKenzie, Scully, Gysberts etc, we seem to have enough tough inside players. So I'm not sure where Nathan Jones fits in the side.

We need a good tagger who can run with the champion midfielders, but Jones hasn't proved himself in this role. If Jones or Cam Bruce are the only players we potentially lose over summer, then i think we can't be too shattered...

To be fair though Crusty Demon, even if he were leaving or thinking of it he'd be unlikely to tell you. I have heard he is a great bloke though.

quoted for common sense and down-to-earth-ness

have said it before and will say it again. i dont like him as a player - too slow and turns it over too much. BUT he is only 21 and we need big bodies in the midfield until our 'silk' develops, but we wont win a premiership with him as a ball winning midfielder

IMO
