Always followed basketball but only recently been getting into 2K'.

Does anybody have any good tips about gameplay - scoring/offence tips & defence tips? Shot release?
I seem to go through phazes of scoring quite well then getting dominated and not being able to score at all

Played a game v GSW last night. Was down 100-90 with 90 seconds on the clock (8 min quarters).

Had possession, Grant Hill hit a 3.

Came up with a quick steal, dished to Channing Frye, he hit a 3.

100-96 with about 75 seconds left.

They dribble out most of the clock, but miss the shot. I go down the other end and score another 3, this time not by design but just had the open shot with JR.

Now down 100-99 with 43 seconds left. Again they use most of the clock and fail to score. I have possession, get it to Amare at the post, he backs in and draws the foul, missing the shot.

Nervous free throws, hit the first on a 72% shot and 2nd one was 100%, straight in. Violent fist pumping occurs. Up 101-100 with 12.3 seconds left.

Monta Ellis dribbles against JR, fakes the drive and hits the pullup jumper. 102-101 I'm down, with 2.3 on the clock. Use my last timeout to get ball into attack.

Inbound to JR in the arc, his man overcommits on attempting the steal. JR with the open lane goes in for the dunk, way more extravagant than I would have liked with the clock ticking. Threw it down with 0.3 on the clock.

Easily my best win yet in the game. ****ing fantastic!

I read that whole post think I was reading about the AFL game (Read GSW as GWS and lost it from there) Wondering what the hell you were talking about going for 3 and steals and shit, then I clicked -_-

Finally got around to getting this game. Got all the roster updates but when I start a season all the teams go back to the way they were last year. Like Eddie House is still playing for Miami, can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Hahaha, also would like to point out that GWS aren't even in the AFL game!

But yes I do realise it could be a custom season.

Finished my rookie season across Indiana, Detroit then finally Orlando (for good) as the Rookie of the Year, in the Rookie 1st team, All Star Team and the league leader in minutes.

Worked my way up to 8th in ppg until I mistakenly chose 'next key game' instead of 'next game' and watched as 26 matches were simmed which I was fuming over. Went from averaging around 21 ppg since moving to Orlando to having my player getting under 10ppg most of the simmed matches, so ended up 11th in ppg across the league.

Currently averaging 23ppg in the playoffs against Chicago first up. Rest of my team is struggling. Might be an early exit.

So pumped. Came from 2-1 and 42-25 down against the Bulls to win the first round of the playoffs 4-2.

In game 6, we were getting well beaten but whittled the margin down to 2 points at the last change. 4 points down with about 90 seconds on the clock, I sunk 8 points in about 30 seconds and we ended up winning by 8 to go to the next round. Leading the league in points with 21.2 through the first round of the playoffs.

Love this game!

Utter rookie question: How does one go about getting the My Player teammate bonus for "offensive screen" "defensive screen" and "box out"?

Is it somehow linked to playcalling (which I never use)?

For those that play association mode, do you find it more enjoyable to play with a low ranking team and build them up or play with a side that is already competitive?

PS3 controller:

To Screen - Hold down the circle button. You'll know its an effective screen because the controller will vibrate and youll get the 'Set Effective Screen' points. If your teammate scores youll also get points for 'Set Screen for Score'.

Boxing out is holding down L2. Stand in front of an opponent, hold down L2 and if the opponent doesnt really move when the shot is taken then youll see your player do the box out stance and get points for 'Successful Box Out'.

Hope that helps. I use the screen a lot, particularly if it looks like being a play where your teammates ignore your advances for the ball. Its just easy points

Do both.

I just turn autosave off and sim entire seasons. I like the trading/drafting aspects.

I like to play with a middle of the road team - no Heat or anything like that but not a Wizz either. Want it to be a challenge with the team but not impossible.

In my second year as an athletic SF (although I start at SG) and perhaps the difficulty is on too low, I'm averaging like 40 points although I'm a bit of a ball hog and get few assists and next to no rebounds.

Got traded to GSW (they traded Ellis for me) halfway through first season, won rookie of the year.

Hey guys I was wondering if the AI in 2k12 was improved? As im playing 2k11 atm alot of the time they just run it up the court and take a contested 3 with about 20 seconds left on the shot clock? They even do this when we don't need to be chucking up 3's to catch up but just seem to do it for the hell of it. Or is it something to do with the my teammates? At the moment I've got Rose playing 1 and Rip at 2 but both just seem to chuck up contested 3's early in the shot clock and by the end of the game we are shooting like 10% from beyond the arc? Not even Kyle Korver does this and 3's are the only thing the guy is good at.

I started an Association with the Bulls yesterday. Only starting with 4 minute quarters in a 29 game season to try and get through a few.

Phoenix beat me easily first up and then they offered Nash/Hill for Rose/Deng.

A few days later Atlanta offer Joe Johnson for Rip and Deng. Some bizarre trade offers so far and that is only a few weeks in.

You Association lads, how long do you have your quarters and how many games a season?

I am keen to do it as I wouldn't mind doing the drafting/trading and stuff but the games just take too long sometimes.

I'm playing 8 minute quarters and full length season. 13 games to go now. Can understand not wanting to put this much time in though, has been pretty tough but also more involving and rewarding.

Started playing this a lot more aggressively over the last few nights, i thought i was resuming at the March 22nd mark in My Player mode...... whoops i'm only at Feb 22 :p.

Took me a game and a half to get used to playing it again, playing it slightly different to how i originally did. Now i am desperate to try to share the ball and get more assists (lucky to get 2 per game at most). Have got my Assists season states from 1.1 APG to 1.3 APG, slowly on the improve :D.

On my most recent game against the Denver Nuggets, i started off going for Assists. But i reverted to becoming a bit more of a ball hogging scorer when we were starting to fall too far behind. Went from 4 points after the first quarter, to finishing with 35 points, 8 assists, 5 steals, 3 rebounds.

Started a new my player and after seven games I'm averaging 15 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists per game as a 3 point specialist Point Guard. I'm on the Jazz so most of my minutes are at the two which makes it hard to get assists.

Last game I managed 20 points, 5 boards, 6 assists, 3 steals and a block.
