i think they told aish shaz etc what they will be paying them in 2021 if they stick around and then told them to find a better deal if they can....i wouldnt be surprised if our mega superstars next year are testing the water too before and during the trade period.....everyone is going to go wild...

Putting Scharanberg up for Trade and Wills not Accepting our Offer
Will would not be on much anyway, and the club or Shaz thought it was best to look else where.

What do you mean "Following" Dave, they'll be flat out trying to lead them!!

They be Trying to Interview everyone at the Club about the Contracts and We won't hear much else about the Club

I reckon we'll hear SO MUCH about the club that it'll make our ears bleed! The guttersnipes will be concocting all kinds of rubbish scenarios aimed at causing as much dissent at CFC as they can manage.

Have to agree that we still not have addressed our needs.

I understand that it may have been productive for our future trade periods but it’s frustrating as we are relatively close to the ultimate prize.

So many factors need to go right AND at the right time even in a 12 team competition.

Add to that a further 6 teams.

Further add extreme prejudice in compromised drafts through the AFL featherbedding for their expansion darlings.

So what is the bottom line?

If you are one of the core clubs you are quite literally pushing sh@t uphill whilst trying to juggle about 40 balls at once to win a flag.

It would be annoying if they walked after us clearing cap space for them.

I think the Beams deal was unwise, but otherwise quite impressed by Guy.

Trading from an area of surplus, i.e. slow half backs, was the right move to make. I like Aish but if we can’t cover him with Quaynor, Langdon, Scharenberg, Murphy, Noble... then something is seriously wrong.

What did we receive for Aish?

It was basically a reverse-Sam Murray deal. Manufactured a way to get a future second by adding Aish to a later pick.

Agree with your assessment re players as clearly if blokes like Quaynor are to kick on in the way we hope they'll slot into the role. On the Beams deal, however, I have a feeling there may have been forces from above that were driving the need to get it done.

I suspect Guy's hand was forced with the Beams deal, others may have insisted we get him back.

Totally understand the Aish trade; he wanted more security/longevity and has a good relationship with J-Lo, so we wished him well, improved our position in next year's draft and freed up some cap space. With the emergence of Noble and IQ, the return of Langdon etc. I think we were happy to let this one play out.

If Wills and Shaz were sniffing around for better/longer deals and we were restricted because we have bigger fish to net, (Grundy, Goey, etc.) then I also understand that, its a brutal sport when it comes to slots on your list.

Shaz was dropped at the end of last season, Wills just played rather well in a Finals Series and yet, with a full list next season its realistic to see him perhaps not even getting a game.

Both scenarios, (Shaz, Wills) are just the sort of pressure points other clubs will probe and try to exploit.

The Phillips chatter is interesting, obviously he has great stats/numbers, elite in some areas, but he is not getting a AAA salary package at the pies, I would not be surprised if a few carrots/baubles were dangled.

So far, I think Ned Guy seems to be well across the brief.

I think it was the great Damo.... all knowledgeable sage .... who was talking about Elliott and talked about the demons and lions wanting to give him an extra year and probably more money.... and Damo advised the Pies, just get the deal done...pay what Elliott wants. He was wrong. Ned was right. The great Damo knows nothing about how to list manage. He may have knowledge on how to wipe his bum but I have no evidence to support that view.

So the moral in the story is that sometimes you have to take a few risks in list management or you end up like Damo...gormless.

Find out this time next year.

Can he Re-Sign the Big 3 to Long Contracts and still keep our Depth?
Some of our depth will go, it’s unaffordable, but luckily most are on their last contract, Reid, Varcoe, Greenwood, even Dunn if he gets another year. And possibly one or two others.
Our depth will in the kids which as they mature will see us in good situation

The AFL site has a lead story about how the fans feel about the trading period for each club. I think that I read the section on the Pies.... I think I did.... I forgot what was in it. It didnt really matter and the words fell out of my brain as quickly as my eyes could get them in. Fans opinions about Ned's efforts... about as useful as anyone's.

Spot on. And its not too late for the Beams deal to be a success.

I wonder if we will see any of the Grundy, Moore or De Goey contracts signed soon or early next year. It would be fun to see all that click bait evaporate.
They'll just replace it with slightly different click bait - they've begun already because everyone thinks we will re-sign them. OMG the Pies have re-signed some players, they're going to have to sack half their team to afford it. Throw in some speculative names with speculative language then see if it turns into a full blown rumour. "In order to manage their cap, Collingwood may consider trading one of Adams or Treloar." There's a mountain of clickbait in that technically true but very unlikely line .

Pendlebury to the Suns for 2 years? Would be a perfect fit to add some leadership, set an example on and off the training track, blah blah blah...

We’ve got one that could get done this year and unfortunately i think it would be a poor outcome.

Both JDG and Moore will want to get more footy under their belt to max out there value so probably don’t get done for another 6-9 months. We all know what it takes to get Grundy’s done prior to 2020 and I don’t want the club to go there.
