Need for Speed

One thing I have noticed about our Midfield is that we have no one with Electric Speed we do have Few like Thomas who can Break lines but they are not Super Quick and have great Burst of Speed as well.

Seen that in the VFL there all Slow to Okay Speed, Those Dick and Bennell showed bit of Speed that will help.

Does this concern anyone

Plus didak who isnt slow, and pendlebury the same, and shaw, and beams is quick enough.

We cant jjst play players because their fast thats why johnno plays every week.

In any case dick and bennel neither are ready for seniors midfield

Hawthorn Midfield;

Lewis, Mitchell, Sewell, Hodge etc, none of them are super fast either.

Speed is over rated, ask Essendon.

Geelong arn't quick and they killed us. It's all about getting our hands on the ball.

Give me a team of talented ball players over a team full of speed.

Look at Essendon. Plenty of "speed" but are soft and weak.

Speed is overrated in the modern game. Both Hawthorn and Geelong are not overly quick, yet they have players capable of winning the contested ball and have terrific ball use either by foot or hand. If the skill level is high, you will destory teams.

It seems that footskills have become the #1 priority in the modern game.

Dave, Dick is 19 or 20, has the build of a praying mantis, is coming off a knee reco and has played about 3 AFL games in his life(none in the midfield).

This is a better post. In time being the key phrase, no chance of making an impact in the midfield this year.

We're playing Hawthorn. The human cannonballs that are the Hawthorn midfield are jostling round and Brad Dick is playing midfield for us. The siren goes, the unpire bounces the ball. The cannonballs explode. What's Dick's main job?

sorry to come across all preachy but constant references like this that reference women as weak and unworthy of the status afforded elite mens sport are offensive in the extreme

make the point that collingwoods midfield is weak at the ball by all means... moderators should make this an issue... the sooner we start collectively tackling this sexist silliness the better

Didak isn't quick. It isn't enough being slow. Pendlebury is slow, hes just very zippy through traffic, Shaw definitely isn't fast and Beams is probably slower than Shaw.

We do lack fast, fast runners at the club. Davis is lightening, and Swan is up there above those mentioned. (Over 20-30 metres anyway)

Leg speed is massively overrated. Geelong's gun mids are lightning quick but, guess what, it ain't from leg speed.....

Precise, quick ball movement, be it by hand or foot, is what you need in the modern game. Geelong have perfected it and dominated (save for a bad day in the granny) and Hawthorn are not far behind.

The rest of the comp is. We are a substantial way behind because we struggle to win the ball to start with.

It's all about the midfield, efore anything else. Our's is massively lacking.
