Needed: Pace in the midfield

Slow: Jamar, Moloney, Jones, Trengove, McKenzie

Average: Jetta, Green, Gysberts, Morton,

Fast: Scully, Bail, Davey, Sylvia

----------------------------

Take Davey out of our game and we go far too static, it was no surprise that our 2nd half resurgence coincided with Davey, Bennell and Jetta getting amongst it. Moloney was superb with what he does best, but how often were his quick kicks rebounded out to the wings to spare Swans?

Smashing teams in contested footy and not winning suggests that they are getting through far too easily on the rebound. Swans had 14 running bounces to our 2 today. How often did Rohan or Jetta weave a way through today?

Scully's return will help, but we have a month of games first; we play our worst football when we are static. Blease is a fair way off, but it might be an idea to throw Bennell onto a wing a bit more, he looks in great nick and doesn't waste an opportunity (Maric was lost in traffic today in comparison).

I'll tell you what we need , Jack Darling. Played very well as a key forward yesterday against quite a good North Melbourne backline, a dozen touch, a couple of strong marks, lots of tackles for a key forward and two goals. Cant help but feel, more than ever our club(and many others) made a mistake not picking him up...

Give me a day and I will give you video evidence that he is.

I love Trengove, but quick he is not.

He's not fast but I wouldn't go as far as to say he's slow. He was made to look slow yesterday because he had to chase Jetta down the wing then five minutes later he had to do it again with (I think) Rohan.

These are relative terms.

Obviously pit most of us against Trengove, and he'd have us. But 'fast' here are your Daveys and Jettas. And likewise, all those who I have placed in the 'average' group would all I believe be faster than Jack.

Nevertheless, it's getting away from my point a bit.

I dont think Trengove is slow, not as explosive as davey or the like but his pace is above average for afl standard, jones is similar not slow but just pretty standard. One thing with the guys you mentioned Moloney, Jones, Mckenzie they are all prodimately inside mids who do a lot of grunt work.

And BS; i think our forward line looked very dangerous yesterday, with Jurrah, Dunn, Petterd there was no real need to draft another mid sized fwd in Darling. I didnt see him play last nite but by all reports he was very good.

One thing to work on is our movement of the ball from the aback half, needs to be quicker, decisive and more skilful.

Jones isn't slow and neither is Trengove.

There's a growing myth that Trengove is slow, but his 2.94 seconds over 20 metres at a state screening and his long chase on Jetta (or was it Sumner) on the weekend demonstated that he's not slow. You only had to use your eyes to see he's not slow. And you're right, nor is Jones. I'd consider both to be 'average'. They're both faster than Green, who he listed as average.

I don't disagree with his premise though. We could do with Sammy Blease's pace and the return of Scully.

Non of McKenzie, Trengove or Jones are slow.

OP overreaction.

Get Scully back in there and things look better. Would also like to see Bail play behind the ball to provide some run and carry to break the lines.

How far is Blease away??? watched him before he got drafted and I wanted him. Your midfield is looking awesome.....

Trengove is not very quick, but nether were James Hird, Robert Harvey, Nathan Buckley and Michael Voss.

Agree on that we do need more explosive pace but you got Trengove wrong.

Trengove regularly beats Scully over 20m. Trengove got caught looking slow against Lewis Jetta but Jetta is in another class in speed and would burn most players in open space.

Trengove is also faster then jetta, green, gysbert, morton.

Blease's pace would be nice. Hopefully his career wasn't destroyed in school. Strauss also is another quick player but athletes who aren't footballers are useless. Hail mary is all i'm hoping with Strauss.

How can people call Jones and Trengove slow yet Jetta fast?

Jetta goes at a snail's pace sometimes. He's evasive, yes, but fast, no.

I think people are getting confused between Lewis Jetta (Sydney) and Neville Jetta.

Trengove is medium pace I think. I'd rather him than Moloney or McKenzie in a foot race. Not sure how quick Gysberts is either.

We probably need more speed on the wings. If we have one of Scully or Davey through the middle, with Bail tagging, that's plenty of speed from an inside group. But we need someone like Blease on the other wing.

Bennell (who is undoubtedly lightning) hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread. I still think he's working towards becoming a wingman and could boost the speed.

Darling is 191 cm. Not sure if that's mid-sized.
Should have gone for best available (which Darling was), not just picking someone (like Cook) because they happen to be taller than the other player by the length of a Chinaman's dick.

100% agree with you. only thing cook had going for him was he was a goodie and was taller than Darling by a Dal Santo dick

In hindsight, that's the analogy I should have used. Much less racist. :thumbsu:

Obviously plenty of teams didn't see Darling as best available as he went down to pick 26. Plenty of teams had picks between ours and West Coasts!

I disagree. Last year he was being touted as a Top 3 pick. I think teams may have been put off by apparent behavioural problems (particularly in light of the Fevola saga), but surely he was worth taking a punt on.
