Direct, through the parklands and suburbs it's about 3km. Or a bit over 1km to the tram stop.

It will be interesting how they do the linear trail area up - especially between Port Road and South Road, including the new Southwark development, Bowls Club etc. It would be a longer walk/ride/e-scoot but with time, some good walking shoes and some good refreshment establishments along the way, could be a nice longer walk.
I use this path every day including when I ride to games. I doubt anyone would walk from hq to AO. Even if it's on the way I'd rather grab a few from Dan's and drink along the torrens somewhere.

It can't be that hard to organise a dozen buses from AO to HQ and vice versa every game. It would catch on, get a few ex players there, Sam Jacobs could drive a bus, happy days.

I dont want to be that invested in the game day experience

'' Hi this is your driver Sam - did you know I falconed myself 7 times in my career - RoB only has 6 - I am the winner ''

It’s an interesting discussion, I’m all for the opportunity to do something at the club pre-game if I was heading to one. But what’s the club realistically going to make out of it? 400 people x 4 drinks x $8 gross profit per drink x 11 games = $140k. Is it worth the club popping up a function area for that gross profit figure? And if you don’t do it properly, people will just return to pooling at the AO adjacent pubs pre-game.

It’d be good if the design included a way to service a much bigger crowd for away finals or special events where there’s more a supporter community benefit and the profit is a nice bonus.

That's a question that keeps getting asked. No one from the club has said they will. It should happen.
My understanding in early discussions was that Crows SANFL would play their home games at Thebby .....now things may have changed, but that was the intention

Our intention would be irrelevant, playing away is a requirement of us competing in the SANFL. It would be up to the league whether we can play home games when Thebby is ready. And given the lack of opportunity to enter a different league, I can’t see the SANFL clubs being too keen to lose the extra bit of revenue and start providing us a home ground advantage. If the $600k was genuinely at risk, we’d have some leverage.

Every time a club official is interviewed about Thebby, they say the girls will play there. Never a mention of the SANFL side. Not that I've seen anyway.
It would be terrific if the 2nds had a home ground.

Is it still the case that we have to play the vast majority of our SANFL games "away"?

Correct.

However, games involving us are generally the biggest loss makers for SANFL clubs, hence why we’ve had curtain raisers at Adelaide Oval, sides play us in the country at any given opportunity etc.

If the club pushed to make Thebby a home ground, I think it would happen.

If the club is smart about it, they could sell it as SANFL returning to Thebby full time.

Personally, I’d love to see Centrals play the Crows at Thebby.

On the flip side, if plans to play SANFL matches at Thebby fail, do we start agitating for Port to no longer play home games at Alberton and make them the away team for all matches too?

Either or.

Port need to lose Alberton for home games or we get home games as well.

That's a good point .....if Port can play home games at Alberton, there's no reason we can't play home games at Thebby

Are the crowds that much lower at games involving us?

Generally yeah

By how much? I find it extremely difficult to believe they make a loss out of those matches if they are making profits out of others. Profits would no doubt be lower due to lower attendance, that's a given, but making a loss is garbage or terrible management. Even if you allowed free entry and provided absolutely nothing and nobody at all turned up, you'd break even. I expect this is a tool used for leverage when yearly negotiations occur regarding our fee to play in the league. I'd do it if I was a group of SANFL clubs, be stupid if they didn't.

Yes there is. When we negotiated to field a seconds side instead, part of the agreement was that we’d play all away games. It’s that simple.
Time to re-negotiate.

Port should not get different to us. If we dont get home games then neither should they.

I would imaging that we'll try, but it'll come at a cost. It may be financial or it may be changes to number of listed players. We're different to Port because they've always had a team in the SANFL, it was a condition of them getting the second license. We had to negotiate our way into the comp and one of the aspects was perpetual away games. We're going to have to negotiate our way out of that. Nobody at the SANFL or the clubs won't be seeing this as an opportunity to extract a little bit more from us. Which is exactly what they should be doing.

Why do we want home games?

I doubt it's something the club even cares about campaigning for.
