Adelaide Uni leases the oval from the council, they don't own anything to sell there, and paying them to leave their lease still faces the problem of getting the ACC to agree to lease it to us and let us build on it, same as the Aquatic Centre site.
We will only get something on the parklands if Olsen is able to get the state Liberal government to work some magic that bypasses the ACC, like they did with the Adelaide Oval and have been able to do with certain apartment developments in suburban councils.

I have no problem with the club acknowledging its historical links to the SANFL, but the club under no circumstances should ever be a financial crutch for the SANFL especially if it's to the determent of it's core function.

Is our existence about serving as a cash cow to the SANFL or is it to be a successful football club?

From my perspective they're mutually exclusive stances.

100%
We became independent from the SANFL in 2014 and pay them $400,000 a year to play a team in their comp as the away team every round bar one, that’s more than enough.

Why don't we dream big, and go Park 12? Not all of it, just a bit...

An extended grandstand and specialised facilities including afc hq where the grass tennis courts are in the south west corner were tabled to council in anticipation of afc moving to adelaide oval but was swiftly rejected.

There's two things there - one is SCAP, the new incarnation of DAC, which was originally a blunt instrument designed to get around the ACC of the time blocking every single city development on privately owned land due to the North Adelaide brigade refusing to move with the times. This then turned out by accident to be so blunt that unscrupulous (do I even need to say that word?) developers were able to use it to ignore every council, no matter how legitimate their concerns about ill thought and poorly designed projects. Doesn't apply here, because we can't force the council to develop on their land.

The other is the minister declaring a Major Project, and there's so many steps involved that this government, who won't walk to the end of the corridor unless they can do it for free and justify it in an ad at the next election, aren't going to do it.

Like I said, "dream'. Unfortunately.

Basically says the ACC is going to reject any and all attempts to move into the Parklands and will refuse to even meet with the club about it. Proposals will have to go through the Adelaide Parklands Authority before the ACC will even consider looking at it.

Pretty much what I said the other day, why would they accept any alternate proposals when they wouldn’t even accept us helping them out of the s**t.

Thought we would have learnt by now - dealing with ACC...

This is rubbish. The CEO and council staff would be negligent for not listening to any financial proposal. I doubt this meeting would get through all members. They would be wanting to work with the AFC if there was a financial/community incentive.

It would be a few councillors siding with the APA stirring this up. Wait for the meeting.

Bring on the fight!

The ACC would be close to the most backward Thinking organisation around.

Only thanks to its Elected Members and closed minded residents. The council staff are mostly pro growth, just like the rest of us. They are also in so much financial s**t at the moment thanks to the elected members short sightedness! They are a weird bunch!

Anything city council is DOA. They've got a white elephant that they need to jettison, that will be our only parklands opportunity. We're either using Thebby or other ACC sites to get the best available deal at the aquatic centre or we're throwing other sites up as a pure furphy to make it look like we've exhausted all options. There's no inbetween. Even the dullest among us would know the council will not be granting us anything that doesn't involve them 'reluctantly' handing over their cash sucking white elephant to us on terms decided by them.

“it unequivocally clear that we will not support any proposal from the Adelaide Football Club that would include the construction of administrative facilities within the Adelaide Parklands”.

I guess maybe that's where the talk of us having our admin seperate came from? Mentioned our current plan was to have it all in one spot, but ACC not budging on giving us land for admin purposes.

Lots of people in this thread really not understanding the difference between private land and the parklands, or the council's role in protecting what is going to be an increasingly important ring of vegetation around the city as temperatures rise due to global warming.

Several ugly high rise apartments are fine, a football facility where most of it is grass....
Bad AFC

The ACC doesn't have anything to do with any of those, everything over $10mill, ie all of the towers are approved or denied by SCAP, with advice provided by the city architect to try and ensure all aspects of the development meet the architectural standards of the city development plan. As you've pointed out, they don't listen to the advice of the city architect nearly enough.
