Someone that gets it.

A licenced cafe is sufficient for the 3 men and a dog that’ll rock up to training a couple of times a year.

As long as it can be expanded if need be (should we opt to use Thebby instead of Adelaide Oval for a GF live site, for example).

Outside of AFLW match days, people will rarely, if ever, visit the facility.

Having elite, world class training facilities for the players is the most important part of this development. Not some fanciful licenced bar that will barely be used.
It’s amusing reading these opinions as fact that it won’t be used. Just because you won’t go doesn’t mean others won’t. Clearly the backlash indicates that some will. How decent it is will determine how popular it is just like any venue, however this place would have a distinct advantage, it would already have a captured market of crows supporters who want to go to the club, they want to be part of a club and support it. It doesn’t need to be 7 days a week, Thursday to Sunday would be enough.

And it’s not one or the other, you can have elite facilities and a spot for the members to enjoy.

As for the suggestion that of “should we opt to use Thebby instead of AO” wow, if we are not even going to use our own club instead of AO then that would be a complete **** up.

Do you have any semblance of what a football club is or is following the Crows a theatre experience for you?

Being out at West Lakes was the concern. No one goes there. At least on South Road it can have a presence and be somewhat more central. I’d certainly go for a Sunday night feed with the kids.
If they could maybe integrate nutritional intake of players after training couple of times a week during the season and a good number of players attend, that could prove a big drawcard for fans to come along.

Depends on how good it is. If they make it rubbish like any other pub then I wouldn’t bother. But if done right my kids will be dragging me to take them each week like they currently do to go to their favorite restaurants
So really just another pub.

A tough industry to break into. Especially starting from scratch.

But people like yourself are putting this licenced club fantasy ahead of elite training facilities.

The primary purpose of this facility has to be elite facilities for the players.

It’s already been proven that functions like away game events etc are not viable in this day and age, as per Geoffa’s comments earlier.

At the end of the day, a new Thebarton Community Centre is a part of this redevelopment too. If we need a social space for some events (particularly AFLW post game events), I’m sure this can easily be purposed for this.

Where was that mentioned

No idea about this sector - but are pubs profitable without poker machines?
Barely.

We looked into buying one as a group of mates as an investment.

None of us wanted to work in it.

Just not worth it unless you want to buy a salary/lifestyle. Or can scale up. Big Bistro with 40 (max cap) pokies running 16 hours a day.

Poker Machine Entitlement per machine is around $30k. So $1.2m just to be allowed to have 40 poker machines.

So SANFL getting paid out of their lease to the tune of $8.5M… originally wanted $11M
If that's the case, I hope it is a one off, end of everything deal. As in this is what you get, and not another cent will come from the Adelaide Football Club to the SANFL, because we are sick of having to fund you.

Please find one post of mine that puts a licensed club ahead of elite training facilities.

For some strange reason you are the one determining its one or the other.

Been proven?

How long until that ambulance chasing piece of excrement Greg Griffin launches a class action on behalf of neighboring residents?
Still waiting for the 14 players' camp class action to be launched, but he got his name in the news so I'm pretty sure nothing will happen now

But it’s a sporting organisation that relies on members right? And it might be low on their priorities but it is doable.

Look given its location I personally don’t care as I won’t go there for a beer, but if it was closer I would and I’d go to some away games there and watch it with mates and other Crows supporters. That option has been taken away.
So you wouldn’t go but are upset it isn’t there

This is why it’s low priority, if those who are demanding it, how many would go?

Then how many would go regularly.

There is a commercial reality that doesn’t stack up.

And you say well if it was walkable form AO I would… well that location doesn’t exist either at all or without sacrificing all the football needs

Silvers already flagged this.
Silvers is great
It sounds like Olsen has done a good job with the new training facility too (so far), despite there being some doubts when he was appointed, he hasn't really put a foot wrong. SANFL not sharing the lease is a (big) win. I haven't heard or read anything saying that there won't be a liquor license either, despite the last 20-odd pages. They are focussing on more important stuff first
