Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

OFF TOPIC

There is a difference between identifying the boxes and MS/Sony acting on what they know. There is a database at both MS and Sony of MAC addresses of boxes that have been modded, they do know, particularily with the early mods of the Xbox dvd bios.

There are currently legal issues with MS blocking as people pay for the Gold Membership and of course the issues of who owns the box (ie if you own it you might legally be able to mod it ie Jailbreak).

It hasnt stopped MS previously bringing down the ban hammer, they were banning back in August for people who downloaded a planted copy of halo reach.

The only legal issue I think is that currently the LT firmware cannot be detected in fat 360s, maybe it will in time, but if MS could detect it a ban hammer would have hit just before black ops came out.

Anyway back on topic, I really hope this title is going to be good enough so that I can splash $100 on it for the PS3.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

MS were previously able to detect firmware which is why people were getting banned, though there has been no mass banning since the litetouch firmware. Many people are taking the ap2.5 protection as a message that MS are not able to detect the LT firmware so they are now trying instead to tighten up software security. It is logical wonder why MS would spend money on ap2.5 instead of just hitting people with the ban hammer so maybe LT will remain safe on live provided you only run safe backups.

Time will tell whether there is another ban hammer coming or not.

I think they learned that you need to ban and ban fast so they get as many done before people are wise to it - I doubt it will ever be done on a per user basis ever again.

MS have already used this practice. They did a mass user ban back in 2009 with the ixtreme firmware and did a mass user ban with the Halo reach "leaked" copy, I still honestly think that if they could detect the LT firmware the yearly ban hammer would have swung last year on the eve of the black ops release.

It's an ongoing cat and mouse game, MS will ban the firmware and within 2 months hackers will find a new exploit and create a new firmware, people will then buy another 360 and play online for 12-18 months until the next ban hammer and the process repeats itself. Lesson in all of this is that MS need to protect their system better than they have, they should have waited like Sony did and used a media that wasnt readily copyable.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

Wouldn't mind the answer to this too TBH, despite it being off topic (but seriously, how much more on topic stuff is left to talk about?!).

I'm betting that one answer will be "my best work is yet to come with the AFL game".;)

Well.... AFL is the best project I have worked on, a dream as a kid growing up was to make it...

OFF TOPIC

My software is so old it is being released on the internet for free :)
"Realm of the Undead"

I have written some books that are even classed as antique (well close enough)!
http://www.paperbackswap.com/First-Steps-Machine-Ross-Symons/book/0552991287/

I did leave games for a while and amongst many other things worked for the NFL in the US doing real time game analysis for sixteen of the clubs there (when there were just 28 franchises) - but I won't bore you all with any more old man stories! :)

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

In regards to the commentary i hope it is alot more in depth than AFL 2007. Which in my opinion is very choppy and repetitive.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

God that Facebook page is laughable. The bloke just reads this forum and tells everyone whats in the game like he is some 'insider'

shaun, game modes will be quick play, single match, online play, season mode, training mode and create a player.
Well that's just bullshit

BigAnt? Is there actually a studio working on the game in QLD? Seems BS to me, and 1 week won't affect a game too much anyway when BigAnt has said himself that the game is all but finished

Shhhh... don't tell anyone... it's pretty comical - I should plant some misinformation here :)

No one is working on the game in Qld.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

Any sort of idea on the timeframe of release for iteration 2 of the game?

It will depend on the level of sales of this release, the greater the number of sales the greater liklihood of an early committment to the next one.

will the sequel be developed by infinity ward or treyarch?

The calculations for goal kicking etc.. are done at run-time, hopefully they will be too hard to hack.

Awesome and thanks for all the input. :thumbsu:

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

Hey Ross, just a question i was thinking about earlier today. What's the pick up and play like on the game? I ask because a couple mates and i often get together for PS3 cricket nights, where we'll play world cups until the early morning. The best thing about games like Cricket 07 and International Cricket 2010 is that the guy who doesn't have the games can just pick up, and within about 10 minutes be timing the ball as well as us others. I'm desperate to get AFL in on these nights too but of course the one time i got them to try AFL 07 they turned if off in disgust.

So i guess what i'm basically asking is what are the chances of the other blokes being able to just pick up a controller and play reasonably competitively in one night?

In fairness, those cricket games are probably a bad judgement point, as they are ridiculously easy.

I'd much prefer there to be a bit of a learning curve to the game. Keeping in mind a game can be difficult and fun at the same time.

You can definitely pick it up and play it straight away, however, like FIFA, if you play against someone that knows the finer points the you will probably come off second best.

For these sort of nights you would probably have to institute "rules" or things that you don't allow players to do that require better timing and controller knowledge, eg. nudging out of marking contests and the like.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

I always wished sports games had an "adaptive" difficulty mode which you could turn on when introducing new players, which would basically track how each of you were playing and either make the game easier (i.e. more likely to kick a goal/make a shot/mark the ball) or more difficult (i.e. more fumbles/missed shots/bad tackles) based on how you play and/or the score.

No-one likes picking up a new game and being thrashed, but I get equally frustrated having to play like crap (or deliberately losing) just so the new player can get the hang of the game

I did like NBA Jam but you soon learned not to ever get too far in front, or even better, wait until 60 seconds to go before you ever got in front. It made all but the lasat 60 seconds a waste of time. The same is true for many racing games, crash near the finish line after a flawless race and lose whereas crash in the early stages without issue - that sucks!

PS: Playing a lot of NFS PS3 online at the moment, no catch up in that one, very cool online game - not many Aussies on there though?!?

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

Yeah that's a good game. Definitely no catch up on that one! One crash in a race and it's all over.

Still looking good for March? Starting to get pumped for this game with the NAB Cup not far off.

The release of the game is up to the Publisher and AFL - I will let everyone know the date the second after I get the advice.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

I personally prefer BLUR.
You can be coming last with 1 lap to go and still win. It has a lot to do with luck as well as skill.
AFL could possibly be out in less than 2 months. Hopefully all is going well with it
