Mate know one cares if your a 'new' guy or not. The question you just asked is a perfectly good question. People just get annoyed when new people barge on this thread and ignore the FAQ and ask questions that have already been asked a thousand times. Also if they use crap grammar and are really hard to read. So don't worry.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

Has anyone thought about the best way to do a set shot, or even kicking in general. I was thinking it would be fun if a system like tiger woods golf/NHL 11 was implemented.

I.E. you use the right analog stick to kick. So basically you use the left analog stick to do your run up, maybe the longer you run the more power you get, or even just you get closer to the goals. Then you pull back on the right analog stick to drop the ball, and push it forwards to kick the ball. You could factor in how straight you move the stick for how straight the ball goes. How fast/smoothly you move it for power etc.

Of course I don't think this is what the game implements, just thought it would be cool. Of course Ross has probably gone through thousands of ideas.

Also, will the field kicking have a power meter like FIFA/PES. Or just be straight to the locked on player, or a set distance depending on the kick?

Cheers for any answers/responses guys.

These jokes were funny the first time but time 1357 not very. All they do is add to the rabble that half you post on here which makes everybody's job of reading it harder. I to have been following since part 1 and cant wait for its release.
Ross im assuming it wasnt a great help to you when freo changed their logo's and jumpers.
Keep up the good work.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

Lurk3r, That would be perfect. Ross has stated he wanted to remove as many meter situations as possible. I wouldn't be surprised if this is implemented in the future if not already in this game. It allows a more natural type of game whilst also incorporating skill (rather than pure chance if it was just a hold down button to shoot system). IMO this kind of thing gives some added realism to golf games and also NBA games where flicking the stick up replicates the jump and flicking it down replicates the way you **** your wrists when you shoot.

sorry guys, been away for a few days, will get my act together.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

I like the idea of using the right stick as a shot on goal. But that said, it would only be for a set shot, as on the run with the TV-style camera it may be too hard to flick it up and down or whatever for a 'Perfect release'.

yea thats what i reckon too.

Wondering how BAS will do shots on the run though. I personally don't really like the NES AFL/ Live '05(ithink) style. Though it wouldn't be a deal breaker.

The system in 06 and 07 was good (Mini goals come up) but even that was only good for set shots....my opinion is when your player is within kicking distance say a red shaded area comes up and that reflects the direction he is kicking in. As the player gets closer to goal, the zone widens up and when he kicks, a good one the shade becomes green and shows what area the ball will move in.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

Hey Ross...any news on whats next for Big Ant, given that your work on this title must be getting smaller by the day.

Has there been any discussions on the next project with anyone - maybe Rugby Union (given that the engine would be very similar to rugby league)?

Or will it be a well earned rest...? :thumbsu:

Yea, thats the system I meant. Haven't really played them much though so wasn't sure.

I don't _hate_ that system, but I'd definitely prefer something new. I dislike how you have to wait to have a shot at times.

I thought they had a cricket game next?

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

I think you find with any game they have features that work perfectly and features that don't work as good.

And I think the new afl game will be no exception. Right now the analog stick for set shots sounds like a good idea( don't get me wrong I think it's a good idea too) but it might not work as well in game as everyone hopes( I hope they implement it and it works perfectly).

And there will be other features in the new afl game that sound like a good idea but might not work with the final scheme of the game.

And you will find as Ross is here on this forum it will be the perfect place to let him know what does and doesn't work in the game after it is released.

And this will no doubt bring about a better version of the game when a new afl game is released after the upcoming afl title.

Me too...but there has been very little said about that game since the original release. I would assume that the bulk of the work has already been completed, given that we were originally told a Feb release.

HB Studios, the makers of the last few Union games (08,06,05) are already developing another one set to be released by the time the world cup arrives this year I believe.

I'm not sure mate, I actually am not familiar with cricket at all as a sport, so whether its more than halfway made or not I probably will not be investing in it. I know so LITTLE I actually asked a mate at work if he watched the '30-30' game a week ago lol fail on my part!

The worst thing about the goals that pop up was if you were outside your players goal kicking distance.

You would just use square and kick it towards goal but if you were on the run and did the same thing you couldn't use square.

Because it would 95% of the time shank it and you couldn't use x because you had too line it up perfectly.

Yea that sucks in the NES version*. Passing is almost impossible so you just kick it long. But when you get to a certain distance from a goal, that option is eliminated so you either have to have a shot and pray for extreme luck, or find someone to pass to, or lose the ball.

*I've been playing it cause my ps2 is broken and i couldn't find 98/99 on pc.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 8 - READ FAQ BEFORE POSTING

Yeah I played AFL 2007 yesterday kicked 17.11 not bad considering it was on the side angle but the aiming is fudged....you cant even see the goals half the time you just gotta aim and pray!
