Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 4

and doesnt mean a simple feature like that couldnt have been implemented this time
I know you like to speak plenty of shit around here. But how do you know what is and what isn't a simple feature to implement in a game? I look forward to your game considering it's all so easy.
those modes werent left out on purpose like uppercut refers apple do with iphones

those modes werent possible with the technology / programming available years ago and now that they are they are included in games by developers

its a stupid comparison, developers havent left that stuff out on purpose in the past at all , waiting for future versions
And again considering you have shit all knowledge of anything you might be surprised to know that YES games and sporting games in particular do leave features out on purpose for future versions. No more prevalent with Be A Pro making it's debut on PS2 over PS3 and 360 versions when they were there to be in, strangely enough it was in the next version.

I am in no way saying this is what BigAnt's plan is. But I am suggesting that BigAnt want features to be fully fleshed out than put in hastily and have them be shit and pathetic or having that hurt the gameplay elements.

Your posting quality is getting worse than Coxy's (and even he's actually come up with some considerably constructive posts than his usual).
Am i the only person sick of these new people on the thread who don't know much about the game and repeat questions, and now all of a sudden they want wafl and sanfl! the afl game thread has gotten over wafl's and sanfl's
YES! Although I didn't see LionMen until the last thread...;) It does seem though that the IQ of this thread and the board is dropping rapidly by the minute.

I still think that the thread needs to be renamed "New AFL Video Game - No release date Q's" at least to potentially curb that question from constantly popping up.

I'm fine with new people coming here and asking stuff, but it'd be great if there could be some sort of re-direction first to make sure everyone knows there's the Q&A thread because we are seriously getting a full threads worth of posts that are EXACTLY the same thing (not to mention generally useless beyond belief).
If you read between the lines, proper player\list management stuff will come in the release after this one.

For me I'm not into DreamTeam\SuperCoach games or Football Manager games. I just want a footy game that's fun to play in single player and online.

Everything else is window dressing...(IMO).
Yeah I mean I do love those management elements, but I can have fun with basic stuff (FIFA MM constantly gets shat on by people, but I find myself just liking the continual different games and slight progression more than anything). I'm not stoked in anyway for it not to be in, but I'm not exactly devastated.

I think what it sounds like is BigAnt is really working on perfecting a proper mode in the future rather than some half baked thing. And while people are having a go at there not being anything in right now if it was like what we've seen in previous AFL games that would, without doubt be the first thing people are having a go at BigAnt for, as was with the previous system that everyone has had a go at (this is what we're probably looking at if it was in the first AFL game people, get real here). At least this way they're focusing on gameplay then will move onto real proper in-depth manager/career modes in the future or so I hope.

A few things I'd like to know though.

How many players can we create? Is it unlimited? And also seeing as it was said that the players should look fairly good through the create-a-player system can we use the PSEye like was used in the previous AFL games to create one that is of our likeness?

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 4

i like it when hutchy gets all high and mighty

my games not coming out for a while cos i have a small budget - gonna focus on the cover and will probably squeeze a draft in somewhere
I like it when people who have no idea constantly make themselves look stupid by thinking they actually have an idea...

You still can't dispute anything said with your own knowledge because you just don't have a whole lot and will post with the usual unsubstantiated crap. Everyone else can see it, yet you can't?

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 4

i cant believe how sensitive everyone is over this

Neither champ, but at the end of the day its a game so eagerly awaited that people are just complaining about the smallest things being left out or whatever. I say be happy we're finally getting a next-gen AFL game, been 3 years in the making almost.

New people? You've only just made an appearance here recently...

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 4

Might be a stupid question Ant_, but how exactly does that tie-in with the game at all? Or maybe I mis-read what you said, if thats the case sorry mate.

It's the time I will down in Melb, BigAnt have offered for a couple of BigFooty posters to come into their office and preview the game.

Which should be a really good experience for whoever get's the chance to have a sneak preview.
Oh by the way 'Ant', every-time I see you post; I always think that you are 'Ben Hudson.'

Btw Ant_, did you ever confirm when that playtest will be? I remember you saying something about mid August, if that works out, we'll get some rock solid news in about 3 weeks :thumbsu:
I'm down in Melbourne for an Oracle conference 15-17 of August, will most likely be then however nothing is confirmed.
Read.

BTW Ant is that conference as boring as it sounds?

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 4

I knew that the news would cause some heat - I wasn't avoiding you guys, honest :)

Big Ant's art director just became a dad for the first time and we went and visited the hospital, then it took ages to read all of the 15 pages that followed my draft post this afternoon!

Ok. So with online:

There are 18 players per side, no offside rule, a pulled back camera - to have more than 2 boxes is not viable at this time! It is a physical issue, not a design one. As you add a box you multiply the additional network packets required. It would be really easy for us to up the number of boxes (as simple as changing one number in a line of code) but all that would do is allow everyone to have really laggy matches - especially as everyone's speed would be equal to the slowest link in the match.

With the draft:

I think this sums up exactly what we were aiming for:

The way that Big Ant Studios have done it is perfect for everyone. A casual gamer might just want to continue playing with the same players year after year or a more dedicated gamer might want to trade and create players according to what happens in real life.

In the future we will better support a draft, but at least in this version you can simulate the draft as it occurs in reality if you really feel that strongly about it!

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 4

For those that continue to ask about release dates etc , again read the posts properly, it says you can simulate the draft as it happens in real life. One of the biggest hints that it will be a 2010 release!

Don't spend all day on BigFooty have to work as well. :)

To answer your question, I find them interesting, good chance to network with DBA's and JD Edwards people from around Aus/Nz. Get to see case studies on how other companies have done implementations etc.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 4

Hi Ross,

I was just wondering what the ideal quarter length is to acheive a realistic result in statistics and scores.

In other games (such as FIFA or NBA) quarters or halves are generally ran around 6 mins each to achieve a realistic scoreline.

Does the AFL game replicate this?

I am hoping there is a quarter length you can play that produces consistent realistic scorelines and statistics every game. In previous games, you may play 15 minute qtrs and achieve realistic possession counts, but the scoreline would be grossly inflated.

Does the game manage to have this level of realism?

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 4

Personally, I'd take proper team editing tools and player creation over a draft which threw up recycled names and slapped them on incredibly poorly rated rookies.

Wasn't much fun having a team where a bunch of guys had the same last name anyway.
This. :thumbsu:

You will be able to create as many as the teams would hold, potentially 18 side of 42.

Unfortunately the PSEye doesn't work too well as when you wrap the image onto a models face it distorts when any animation is added to the mouth, eyes, etc... so we haven't put it in. The player creator will get you pretty close to likeness.

Makes sense, I know my RIM limited ADSL connection would struggle in that situation.

Re: New AFL Video Game - Part 4

Will there be default nicknames of teams, with logos, team jumpers/colours/design, team song etc that we can choose from?

And with custom sides can we use them in a season mode? or just a custom league?
