I actually thought there would have been a post about this already, but obviously not. Did anyone catch the Channel 7 Sports news on Wednesday or Thursday night about the Crows building a similar Centre like the Lexus Centre next to the Crows shed?

Apparently we can not add anymore renovations to our Club rooms now, so we are looking at building our own version of the Lexus centre next to the Shed.

I think that this is a great idea... our facilities are up there with the best, but I think this would take us back to the top in terms of cutting edge technology and facilities. The only downside would be that it would cut back a lot of car parking during the season or hopefully if it does go ahead that construction will start after the season.

The decision is to be made in the next 6 months

was this on a news service or something ??

Does this mean the long term plans for the Crows will be along side AAMI?
Wouldn't the Crows be better served by having something a bit more central?

I dont know, just linking the reports of a ''new stadium'' . It would seem a new building along side AAMI would indicate a long term stay at West Lakes

But as a fan based centre there can be alternate arguments . Yes central allows more people to access it, but its near where the games and jumper shop etc

IMHO this is the first play towards re-location.

The word from the channel 7 news was that they would build it in the southern part of the shed car park. This Sounds like AAMI is going to stay and new facilities would allow for the possibility of the Eastern side of AAMI being redeveloped in a few (hundred :D ) years.

You're probably right and that's exactly what is going on.
But it may also be to stimulate discussion on the long term viability of AAMI being the Crows home base.

Should we committ to these $millions if we need to keep on spending for everjust to keep up?

If for example somebody costed out the costs of keeping up AMMI for the next 25years as opposed to the cost of building a new stadium in the railyards that will easily go 25years, Factor in the possibility of a TV station paying towards it plus State government, AFL, SANFL, even the Adelaide city council would cough up and the $ we would be putting towards the new facility if we didn't move + ongoing maintance that we would be paying for.
You get the gist.
It could be argued that its a cheaper option to move away from AMMI compared with staying. (long term of course).

Didn’t the SANFL do a feasibility study on this exact subject about 12 months after the super screen was erected?

And this is why the $70,000,000 upgrade was approved for AAMI stadium about 6 months ago?

I am heaps disappointed by this, the future for SA football lies in a a new larger stadium and not throwing good money trying to preserve AAMI stadium.

For football to grow in SA we need a larger stadium otherwise the AFC will remain in status quo while other teams overtake us.

The Eagles are claiming that they will have 55k members when Subiaco is redeveloped to hold over 60k people.

I am sick of the SANFL, they have always been far to conservative about things. Everything that happens is either years too late or when it happens just bargain basement stuff like the video screen. HOw small is that thing !!!!

IMO there is nothing wrong with AAMI apart from transport.

I agree, plenty of space to build up for another 10 000 seats if needed.

Just build a bloody train/tram line ala the MCG.
Or one of them Octoberfest thingamajigs like the one that goes to Tea Tree Gully.
That way you can drink beer on the way there and back. :)

Please don't invlove the Adelaide City Council. They will try and build some retractable crap Stadium. :D

Its an old antiquated stadium that is too small maybe if you went to Melbourne you would see how pathetic it is.

It is too small for the Adelaide Football Club, obviously it is fine for Port at the moment with their reduced crowd numbers, but there is more to the viability of AAMI stadium then whether or not it just suits Port's needs.

They either get rid of AAMI or expand it by another 20k seats.

Thats the only option. I am so sick of the SANFL holding onto the concrete jungle like it is some trophy that means something. Even the AFL had the smarts to know that Waverly was past it's use by date and discovered that the thinking in the 70s for stadiums doesnt really work in the modern day world.

I agree we definitely need more seats however I think we only need another 10,000 - 15,000. If you get rid of the waiting list I think you would find that current members would drop off along with new members coming on board.

I recon close to 10,000 members would be holding on to their tickets just so they don't have to go back on a waiting list. No list then who cares if you give up your membership for a year or two. This also explains the no shows for us. The no shows have tickets for convenience so they can walk into the stadium a couple of times a year. No list then you don't need a membership.

I think Port have more supporters than we think based on this. All the Port supporters I know don't have membership every year. I have been telling them to get one and support the club but they are in no hurry.

Add 10,000 seats then add say 5,000 new members and loose maybe 2-4,000 in the first year.

Atleast then we have room to grow our supporter base. :thumbsu:

You lot average only 41,000 spectators.
Apart from the Port games and finals (not all finals either) you have only hit 45,000 or more 6 or so times in the last 4 or so years.
If the no-shows are the issue then the SANFL/Crows should give people a chance to get their tickets by say Wednesday after that sell them to whoever buys them first.
Season-ticket/AAMI-membership should only give you first choice.

I reckon AAMI should be relocated to the northern suburbs, adjacent the Elizabeth/Gawler railway line. Plenty of spare room around Gepps Cross etc.
Around the old abattoir hey? :p
