There is some talk that the Hawks will relocate our training facilities out to Waverley Park. It will also act as our administative headquarters. Glenferrie will remain as a community facility with the occasional training session being held.

There is a hope that moving the club out to Waverley will help regain some of the 9000 members who left the club after we moved to the MCG.

Any thoughts?

You lost 8500 members because you failed to tell them that pets werent allowed inside the MCG until after they have brought a membership, so they didnt renew the following year.
The other 500 are now in the pound, or have been run over.

Ah, memories. No matter how old or tired or stale or irrelevant that joke is, I still love hearing it. Still, I'm sure there are people who have just arrived from Outer Mongolia who haven't heard it yet. Thanks barry, you've made my day.....

Are you sure your name isn't Rohan? Time for some new material.

I think the move could be good (mainly I live in Glen Waverley) but emotionally I'd prefer to stay at Glenferrie. The suburb is the football team all our history is at Glenferrie, we must keep our heartland.

I love the kick of the footy from the station to Glenferrie Oval in peak hour ;) on the old show day when a certain government gave us all that holiday. The stopping at the old Fish and Chip shop (gone for some 3 to 5 years) by the name of Barry's and his disguisting, disgraceful food, but a necessity to have while watching the team before being able to get onto the sacred Glenferrie for a kick.

Wandering over to the past player's and having a cold pot while the ladies axulliary try to sell you a raffle ticket, stopping on the way to have a sausage in keeping with tradition that Bobby Yeoman's brought to the club. Football has become a business I realise but these are childhood memories I'd one day like to show my son or daughter as to what the old man got up to when he was just another Hawk standing under the Dr Sandy Ferguson stand. Sauce dripping down one hand juggling a pot of beer and a football in the other while talking of the latest who's played well and who's looking at playing in the Brumbies next week with supporter's both young and old. This is apart of football I hope we could keep, first it was Thursday training nights gone now a move to Waverley. I don't like to say it but at Waverley the sessions will be during the day and locked off to even the biggest fan. Training has always been great to attend and I'd feel lost on what to do if the opportunity wasn't their.

This may all sound emotional but at the end of the day the coaching department are trying to satisfy the supporters with a premiership but I ask that this institution not be taken away.

As far as I remember pets werent allowed in Waverley Park either!

And try some originality ********.

Apparrently it is a done deal according to todays papers. though it will be at least 3 years before any move is made.

Still can't picture them training anywhere else other than Glenferrie prior to the Grand Finals though:D

What part have the AFL played in this arrangement ? Surely it's in the best interests of the AFL for someone to be at Waverley full-time. Is there any other way for the ground to make any money ?

Here in Canberra we don't get to hear much about footy issues which don't involve the Swans or the Roos playing games here. What I did hear was that noone wants to buy Waverley Park because they aren't allowed to demolish the infrastructure to take advantage of the real-estate due to some heritage/council/ feel-good/whatever law. Looks like it's a lemon all over again.

Hope we are not moving there because the AFL have manipulated us to do so (read "bribed"). I support any decision by the board which addresses the best-interests of the Hawthorn Football Club, the Team, individual players, staff, members and supporters. If the board has done all that and the decision still stands .... get on with it.

It would be nice to hold on to our "real" home ground just in case we need to move back and hang the board.

John
