With the change of the interchange rules next year who do u think will become our specialist super sub?

I seriously think this is a great position to bring new young players through. bring them on in the second half and let there fast young legs dominate. I really think the super sub should be a quick player.

Maybe Wojo as he is getting older could be the super sub specialist.

What do u think?

Re: Super Sub

Max Roooke could do some damage in the last 45-50 mins of a match.

IF he gets his knee right.

Ablett senior, even now in his 40's he would kick 5-6 in a half.

That's a hell of an idea. The Sub rule may just be the tonic to prolong the Manimals career unleash him 10mins in the 3rd quarter of each game an watch the destruction commence

Re: Super Sub

I would use Mooney as the sub, Hawkins and pods the two tall forwards. Three quicks on the bench and Mooney to come on if any of our talls get injured, he can go forward, back or ruck and as it will be his last year he can throw himself in.

Re: Super Sub

I would just use the 22nd best player. Simple as that.
I can't see how you can manipulate the use of it.

Someone will figure out a way though.

Re: Super Sub

would have to be purely based on the opposition.

i.e. If they're small in defence, go in with 3 talls and have a small as a sub or something like that.

Re: Super Sub

Milburn if he plays on, handy burst player similar to Riccardi in his later years?

You beat me to it.
Imagine how good a fully fresh Milburn running on to the ground at 3 quarter time would be in a real tight game?!

He is a very good cool head and could be a very big deciding factor in wins!!

Then if we start blooding a new fullback in coming years, you could have the newie start and if the FF got too far on top, on jogs old man Scarlo:D

I had a LOL at that comment. Who was it that didn't keep his cool in the 2009 GF and gave away a totally unnecessary 50 metre penalty and continues to do it till this day? Wouldn't be the said Dasher Milburn would it?

I like the idea of a Rooke type player coming off the bench sometime in the third quarter, the thing is - what happens if someone gets an injury early in the match. Say in the first quarter someone goes down do we keep two on the bench for the rest of the game or do we sub in someone and keep playing with 3 on the bench.

To be honest I'm not a big fan of the rule, I would have rather a cap on interchanges with exceptions being made for a player who is genuinely injured, but that's just me.

Hopefully it stops teams resting players now, they can sub a good player out if a team is so far ahead.

Going to kill supercoach/dream team

For versatility, it would be Rooke or Lonergan.

I'd go with Rooke, because of his ability to bob up for a few goals in a quarter and because his style of play tailor-made to a forty-minutes all out directive.

Ooh, didnt think about supercoach. How are they going to handle that?!
They will have to sort out some kind of sub thing.

The sub - how will it be used?

I just sent a text to SEN and Balmey pretty much squashed my Corey idea.

Didn't agree that Corey needs the pace out of the game. Said he had sore knees last year , not this year.
And that Corey is too good to be a sub.

Said it was an interesting thought though and that in a few years all clubs will look back and realise they never got the sub right.

He also thinks it may have killed off ruckmen.

Re: The sub - how will it be used?

yeah I agree with him, although I can see where you were coming from with the knee injury and his ability to play in the middle or back.

I think we would want someone who can play a half of football at high pace, similar to in the soccer when a player comes on in the last 30 mins of the game.

Only problem is that they may need to play in all areas of the ground... Who can be that versatile in our current squad thats not cemented in the team?

That's the difference between us looking in from the outside and Balme who see's them and talks to them day in day out. We speculate were as he has the facts.

I think majority of the time the sub rule will be replacing an injured player. I don't know how many time I've seen a concussed player put back on the field a shell or an ankle/hammy injured player limping around simply because the club needs the numbers. This will be the biggest benefit I reckon, Ordinarily the player risks further injury but we now have the option to take them off.

In game where we're up by 30 points at 3/4 time sub off one of our top players will likely be subbed to get them rest. Alternatively we might use it to reintroduce a player to competitive footy if they are too good to come back through the reserves but we don't want to put them through 100 minutes.

This is one of the rare rule changes I have been behind (the other being allowing immediate kick in before flags are waved).

^ And the rushed behind rule I'd be guessing.

Injuries happen. Every time a coach gets a bunch of injuries they complain about interchange numbers. In a few years they'll be asking for a 2nd sub player when they lose a game because they have no interchange.

It can only be a midfielder. You want a player with great stamina to play flat out for either a quarter or a half. It can't be anyone else.

For those who suggested someone like Mooney, recipe for disaster. The side is already too big and too slow.

Re: The sub - how will it be used?

Monica could play the role fairly well if you ask me.

Except that he's already needed in our best side. I'd go for someone like Hogan. Can play in the midfield, and has the speed and stamina to run hard for a half. Has to improve his disposal, but that has to occur anyway if he is to get a game.

I don't quite understand why you would want to put a player with great stamina on for less than half the game. Players with great stamina can play the whole game and still have more energy than their opponent. I think it should be someone that is quite the opposite. Someone that is quick but doesn't really have the stamina/endurance to play out a whole game at that speed.
