A decade of thrills, spills and near misses for a group of players that became known as Hafey’s Heroes. The Magpies made nine of a possible ten finals series during the decade, but collected their only wooden spoon in 1976. Looks much better than the previous. Those little white bars at the top of the white stripes on the front were an eyesore. Could someone who is itk about guernsey manufacturing explain why so many of the new jumpers have "shoulder pads"? My old footy jumpers were just joined at the top of the front and back. Looks silly imo.

I agree with this totally. Stripes should go back to just above the number.

The way most jumpers are manufactured however the back encroaches over the top of the shoulders. In Star's case I think they have actual shoulder panels, a Pies fan could confirm for me.

Why they can't just print the stripes on the top of the back part or shoulders is a mystery to me. Clearly we can print on every material if WCE's new wings jumper is anything to go by. Manufacturers are just lazy and don't give a shit.

If Collingwood demanded it, Star could do it. That's how WC got its wings fixed. But if the club doesn't care, the manufacturer won't bother

The utter failure to pursue the perfect iteration of your club's jumper is such a disappointing thing that happens league wide. Especially for a sport where the guernsey is so sacred that the process of introducing adequate clash strips is still ongoing.

Clubs are happy with any old shit dished up. Adelaide this year being the epitome of that.

Preach! When I first heard that Collingwood were ditching Adidas, I thought that they could finally go back to wearing a Collingwood guernsey. Then they brought it out with those superfluous little white bars, they're such a small thing but they ruined the jumpers for me. I don't reckon it was as bad on the white jumper, but still completely unnecessary

Yeah that is 100% correct, manufacturers will produce designs for clubs (usually 3 or 4) but it is the club that makes the final decision as to which they want if any at all. So if North was presented with the designs with the cut off stripe and rejected them wanting a full stripe then the manufacturer would have to make the changes.

So as much as people can whinge about the designers creating poor designs, the clubs have just as much blame for agreeing to use those designs.

Yep, we started the cut off stripe in 2012 with Blades and kept it with Canterbury this year. Canterbury's is even worse because it stops lower down than the Blades one.

I agree, but we are in the minority -- it's also the supporters who are happy with "any old shit dished up". Bearing in mind the modern-day necessity for minor changes from year to year in order to initiate more sales, pursuing an "ultimate iteration" does not fit with that, unfortunately.
