I'm not saying that Mornington's logo came before the Western Bulldogs logo, what I am trying to point out is how much the Western Bulldogs shield part of their logo looks like the shield shape of the Cricket Australia logo.

That's great, but I don't see why that matters?
It's different enough to not confuse the two.... :D
Adelaide United and Sydney FC use the same type of stylised shield as well in a professional league.

That shape of logo has been associated with Cricket since it was introduced. As can be seen from the below logos most Cricket logos in Australia have changed to this shape since then.

Using a logo that is the same shape would be confusing people on what sport you play.

The original state logos weren't converted to that shield until last year/this year, and even the Cricket Australia shield wasn't created until 2004, the Year of the A-League's inception. So isn't it possible that AUFC and SFC had registered those shields first?

The fact that they both have stylised soccer balls in United's and Sydney's, as well as 'FC' in both logos should make it clear enough what they play, regardless of shield.

The shield logo of Cricket Australia was designed so it would become the logo of cricket in Australia. What I was saying is that Bulldogs logo is the same shape as the Cricket Australia logo. So the it is more likely that the Western Bulldogs logo may have a cricket origin. Well it doesn't matter anyway but Mornington Cricket Club has gone with the old Bulldog logo on their website.

Now to direct discussion of this thread to what it is labelled to be about, the new Melbourne logo.
How likely are Melbourne to change their new logo to one that is pictured here, that people have said look better. The image created by deanrobinson is better that the new logo.

But I doubt Melbourne would want to change their new logo after spending so much on it so far. However, the change to this is only small and could be done without saying anything. Like when Collingwood swapped the flags over, it was done with no fanfare.

Collingwood did that for legal reasons, if Melbourne did it, it'd be purely aesthetic

The issue with that second logo is the shading behind the red banner. Melbourne wants a simple and striking logo that kids can draw in their exercise books. Not one with a 3D banner. I saw heaps of similar designs in market research last year, they were available.
