When do the new jumper numbers get assigned to the players? Is it after the rookie draft?
Unless my mind is failing me, my recollection is that the following numbers are available:
3
16
30
31
39
42
45
46
47
48
I am assuming that Petrenko may choose to change his #42 (though personally I'd like to see him keep it, somehow I feel it just suits him!), and that jumpers 46, 47 and 48 will be (re)introduced to cover the two new rookie positions and the "retired" number 19 guernsey. I believe Cook took Bassett's old number #8 leaving Cook's old #39 free.
I suppose it's a fair assumption that the three rookies we pick up and Donnelly will take guernseys 45-48, leaving the others for the rest of our draftees. This is how I'd like to see the others line up:
3) Phil Davis - somehow Davis just makes sense to me in #3. Not because he was our first rounder this year but his slender frame works in #3. Besides, if he can live up to the work ethic of Massie he'll be a gun!
16) William Young - To be honest I picked all the other numbers first and so Young just got 16 by default. Sorry Kenny
I can see it though!
30) Shaun McKernan - After Jericho we need someone not afraid to crash into packs to bring some respect back to #30. Enter McKernan - his pack marks and mature body will see this number feared once again like in the days of Vardy!
31) Thomas Lee - For some reason pick #31 always seems to be the unfashionable type of player. Campbell, Krueger, Marsh... Lee strikes me as unfashionable but I'd love to see him break one of our worst jumper curses!
39) Rory Sloane - I have a hard-on for number 39, and I also have a hard on for Rory. It just fits!
42) Jared Petrenko - I don't know why but right from the start I've felt this number is right for him. Hopefully next year he can stake his claim over Lovett-Murray as the best running aboriginal defender in #42
Edit: So, my mistake. Replace #48 with #35, forgot about Biggles.
