I met a young guy today that said he was signed as a rookie by Fremantle. Now I thought this was a bit weird, seeing as the rookie draft isn't for another few weeks.

He apparently went to training last night after work, which was another weird thing, as I thought all the training is during the day.

Could it be already decided who is going to be taken in the rookie draft and have been signed or is this kid telling porkies? Is there another level of contracts that can be signed that secure players to Fremantle, but not actually on the list?

One thought I had was he was signed by Souths or East Freo. He apparently played colts for another WAFL team in '11 season.

Happy to be corrected, but I thought the AFL had "permission to train with" lists. So far we have Zac Dawson and Clancee Pearce given permission to train with us.

He may have been told that we'd pick him if he was available at our pick/s. That's not that unusual.

But if he's running off at the mouth, that's not a good look.[/quote]

I thought the same, does not look good, unless this is standard practice for the rookie draft. He reckons he has put pen to paper. I guess time will tell.

It's not too uncommon. My old man has friends whose son is this years draft age and apparently the club has told him that if we don't get Davis we will rookie list him. Weird but that's what they said.

I'd say it is pretty easy for a kid to hear something in their own mind like "we will draft you", when in fact they have been told "we might draft you". I don't have much faith in the comprehension/listening skills of most of today's youth.

An easy solution to this is for you to PM his name to one of the mods, and ask them to keep it safe until after the the RD.

Bingo, rumour/innuendo solvered and you either look like an idiot;) or someone in the know.:thumbsu:

was he an east perth colts player?

No it was another team.

It was in a work situation, so I can see that he might be trying to impress people.

Personally I call BS, as nothing fits with what is happening with the team at the moment. I reckon he has signed with south or east and Freo has indicated they will pick him up in the future.

The other thing is he definitely is not a tall...shorter than me and I am 5'7.

Perhaps the Christmas party will be Star Wars themed, and you misheard and he actually said he had been signed on as a wookie. If he's short that doesn't make any sense though, unless he doesn't know the difference between a wookie and an ewok.

Or maybe it's just a trap!
