Hopefully the club can get this temporary stand in by February next year in time for the 2008 season. The club said they are hoping to cover the costs through membership sales and seat sales for next season.
it would be up until the completion of the new stand replacing the Ross Drew.

seems like a good idea with the Ross Drew going after next season. Increase capacity by up to 1000. It is right behind where the opposition cheer squad usually sits.

it also means they would have to get a new scoreboard up that end.

Where will they put you in 2009?

That room above the VFL change rooms, I think its called the popesque (spelling) room, if it's only for a year i dont care, but if it drags out over two  they are looking after us but so we dont run off and get boxes at the telstra dome and such but they are much more $$$$$$

What's all this about a temporary stand? News to me!

i just found out today when looking through the Addy webpage. Seemed fairly interesting but a good idea considering attendances will hit a new low in the 2009 season. with so many members to satisfy it's good to see them go down this path

Bigdroppunt, Its not the Popescue Room (which has now been renamed the Fred Flanagan Room). That room is virtually diagonally opposite the actual area in question.:)

Oh i know that i was replying to Recat's post when he/she asked " where will they put you in 2009" but you are right it is opposite this room :thumbsu: I will be moved to this room for 2009.

we won a premiership and attendances will hit a new low in 09?

When the Ross Drew Stand gets removed apparently we will lose 2000 to the capacity. the temporary stand will provide roughly 1000 more seats so i'd say we will get a 21,000 seat stadium with 5,000 standing room which is lower than the alleged capacity of 27,000 now.

i'd say there will be a few lock outs in the next couple of seasons at some games unfortunately

There only around 1,500-2,500 standing room capacity.

We averaged just under 22,000 at S.S in a premiership year, capcity is around 25-26k so -1k capacity for 2009, we should average roughly 20-21k for the 2009 season (depending on form).

im sure there is a business reason for this but i dont know why havent already got a 30 000 seat stadium going. Our membership levels have been good for the last few years.

There is no reason why the club shoudnt have had a bigger stadium by now.

In the old days we'd get 30 000 to games when Ablett and co were playing. Nowadays we dont get that because of the seating and reduced capacity, the question is, why are we in this situation?
Surely the AFL realises that they have a great opportunity to fund a fantastic stadium that will cater for the Western Districts of Melbourne as well as Geelong.

I sit next to the VFL players race there, it's a good spot.

Geelong asked for a stadium at around that capacity. The AFL turned us down

bigdroppunt,
I dont think you will be where you think you will be in 2009. My direct inquiries with the club suggest that the Fred Flanagan Room seats will only be sold for one more season (2008), then it will be redeveloped ! Beats me.

So, is this temporary stand going to increase or reduce capacity? I am a little confused by some of the responses in this thread.

For the 2008 season the temp stand will increase the capacity by about 1000.

I think there are a number of redevelopments going on but the first is the Ross Drew stand.....Then later the standing room areas are to be redeveloped as well. Not sure if that includes the Ford Stand which has the Fred Flanagan room in it. Would make sense if what your saying, about only selling Fred Flanagan room seats for one more season, were to be true.
Maybe you've got your years wrong cause re-developments at the northern end of the ground wouldn't be happening until at least 2010.
