Newton's 50th game for MFC

Michael Newton will play his 50th game for our great club in 2017. He will be 30 yrs old and it would have taken him 13 seasons. This is going on his averages of 4 games/year.

Seriously can anyone give me a valid reason why we have kept him on our list.

I love this club but I think they have got this wrong.

Like you, I rate Newton even below Miller. I doubt he'll come on to be anything significant but being on the rookie list and taking the spot of our 6th pick in the RD is not the end of the world.

Agree mate but it will be 7 long years now. He is the classic list clogger.

We have lost alot of experience this year, yet we keep him.

It doesn't make sense to me.

I think he's probably there for insurance, given that most of our ruckmen (Jamar aside) are yet to develop a solid body capable of handling the rigours of AFL football on a week-to-week basis.

We are pretty short in the area of big KPF players as well, so I guess that was another thing which contributed to Juice's retention.

As RandB said, not the end of the world seeing as he's only taking a spot on the rookie list.

A classic list clogger would be Brad Miller, who spent 9 years on the SENIOR list and has nothing but crap performances to show for it.

Newton is only clogging a spot on the ROOKIE list, far better off having Newton on the rookie list than Miller on the senior list.

Give it a rest.

Our hands were tied last year unfortunately because he was contracted.

This year it is a different scenario.

Don't worry though I agree with where you're coming from but you play the cards you are dealt each year.

Last year he had a contract. What bit don't you understand of that?

This year we have 5 rookie picks and he is only taking the 6th one of those. So we not matter who is drafted after him we will have had plenty of opportunity to draft them.

I very much doubt a better back up forward/ruck will be taken in the final round of a rookie draft than Newton.

Well said. My thoughts exactly. Newton is taking up a spot on our Rookie List! Big deal! Far from a list clogger. Miller was definitely a list clogger and needed to go.

Look, i understand the anger towards Newton and him still being at our club. But while we have a developing forwardline and a lack of dominant rucks, he stays on our rookie list. When we are competing in finals on a year to year basis, Newton will not be a part of this club. But until then, we need to suck it up and accept the fact, that he is a back up in case of any serious injury to one of our key forwards or rucks.

these 3 have been recently delisted by the way.

I, like you, am amazed that newton is still on our list. But as all the others have stated, he is only taking up one of six rookie spots.

Someone has to take over Miller's role by staying on the list without ever doing anything.

Newton will not be on the list in 2012. He only got another year because he sacrificed his position on the senior list.

There is no way Newton's manager would allow him to get screwed, both parties needed to compromise so Newton get's 2 years on the rookie list instead of 1 on the senior list and we get to recruit Gawn and Fitzpatrick.

The same goes with Meeson who would of got the same deal if his ankle wasn't stuffed but he will still be doing a coaching role with the club next year.

Get over it MFC Newton never should of been given a 2 year contract but the position that he is in now I wouldn't worry about it. It was nowhere near as baffling as Miller getting a 1 year contract this year. Actually if we got rid of Miller when we should have we could of kept Newton on the senior list and got rid of him at the end of this year, so again Miller has stuffed us up.

Rubbish! Dunn has always developed! In one year Bailey played him as a tagger, he's played as a back-up ruckman and now he will play forward.

Funny thing is though Dunn and Spud Newton were darafted in the same 2004 draft!

Funny thing I just looked up Casey's B&F results.

You'd think with Newton playing a full season in the 1's except for 4 games he'd finish in the top 5 or even close, yes?? NO!!!!
