I think the next 3 games are going to be real tough. I know we should approach this season one week at a time BUT how many of the next 3 games do you expect us to win?????? Personally, I think one would be a reasonable expectation and anything over that would be bloody good.

Our next 3 games are:

Vs Melbourne @ MCG (Friday night game)
Vs Brisbane @ Football Park (Saturday night game)
Vs St. Kilda @ Telstra Dome (Friday night game)

Thoughts??????

Yes agree stiffy, must win at least two of them to stay in touch with the top four, I think we will beat Brisbane at home but it will be a tough game and if we can jag either a win against Melbourne or the Saints away then we will be in a very good position.

Very important we do all the hard work in the first 12 Rounds as we have a fairly good draw later in the season, think four of our last five games are at home.

Would like to see 2 out of 3 but in all likelihood it will probably be 1. After this week, everyone plays each other once, so a 5-2 record would set the season up perfectly.

Regardless of the results, at least in 3 weeks time we will know exactly where the season is heading. In 3 weeks we will either be serious finals contenders or we will be back to where most of us were expecting to be at the start of the season.
If we lose all 3 games, I think you can safely say that any thoughts of finals success in 2005 is a very wishful thinking. If we lose 2 we should face the fact that we are a middle of the road team and our focus needs to redirect to our original goals for the season. If we lose 1 and win 2, we are obviously around the mark for a team in 2005. Given the inconsistency of all other sides except WCE. 2 (or 3) wins would give us a real chance of at worst a top 8 finish if not top 4.
Personally I reckon we will win one game and we will be back in the middle of the pack come mid season. The srategy from there onwards is pretty simple, play the kids.

I would hope to win all three but I think if we win 2 we have done well. With home games against Carlton and Essendon in rounds 10 and 11 ( which we should win), if we go into the mid-season break at least 7-4 I would be very happy.

I think we can win 2/3, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got 1/3 or god forbid 0/3 :( don't think we'll get 3/3.

This AFL competition is so tough that the next 3 games are critical to any claim of being a genuine finalist IMO.

As kirky quite rightly says, after this week everybody plays all of the other 15 teams in the comp once, so this week's game is a massive one in terms of setting up our season with a 5-2 start before the final 15 games begin.

Brisbane will be tough now that Brown is back and firing but not impossible. St Kilda look almost insurmountable.

I can't see us getting all 3 wins, and even 2 would be extremely good, although I'd even settle for 1 considering that these 3 teams are all genuine finalists, Brisbane included.

2 at best. 1 most likely. 0 also possible.

What if G-Train gets a 3 week ban and misses the game against us??????

Without St. Nick and G-Train in their forward line they could be a bit vulnerable and might struggle to kick big score as their structure would be completely out of place.

Food for thought I guess.

I reckon we're better than Melbourne all over the park and should win Friday night.

It would have been nice to play Brisbane a few weeks earlier but I don't think they've returned to past form just yet. At home, we should be good enough. Heck, even Port beat them at Footy Park.

Like many I favour a St Kilda premiership for 2005. They'll be too good for us at the Docklands.

2 wins 1 loss. You heard it here first.

G-Train got a week and St Nick will return next week. :(

Au contraire young Stiffmeister, Gherig's suspension was reduced to 1 game tonight, so you'd have to think he'll be there.

Like Dave, the Saints are my early tip for the flag from West Coast, so I really doubt that we can get over them awaay.

Out of the next 3 games, I realistically think that we will come out 1-2, with an overall record of 5-4, still in the top 8. I believe that we will beat Brisbane at AAMI Stadium. However, whilst I am hesitant about Melbourne, we CAN beat them. I just imagine them to be very fired up after their loss to Freo.

The big advantage they have over us is they have a forward line. If Kenny, Rutts and co. can do their job we win - Crows by 24 pts.

i hope hentschel plays on riewoldt, hes got the mobility to go with him, and did a great job last yr. Kenny can play on kosi, or loose he just hasn’t got the mobility atm. Riewoldt may be a touch underdone though. Rutten on Gehrig will be interesting, we'll get to see how fast benny really is. Realistically, jacks astute predictions say we are a chance with brisbane or the saints, but i feel melbourne at the MCG might be out of reach. Not that melbourne have many tough players, but if scotty gets into trouble, hope at least one of the guys helps him out. As the majority have said 2/3 is probably the most we can hope for. 3/3 and i'm on the craigy bandwagon, not that hes done a bad job...

 Well ******** me sideways!!!!!

That blows my theory right out of the water :D

We have a pretty good record aginst Demons but I think they are a pretty good side this year. Of the 3 games I feel most comfortable with the home game against Brisbane. I think we will beat the Lions and I can't beleive people think that Brown will have as a big a say in the game. If Kenny matches up well on someone and has sensational record against, its Browny. I can't remember the last time Brown has beated Kenny.

I think that St. Kilda game is the toughest one by far and along with others I think they will win the flag this year.

maybe you didnt catch browns game the other night?? He is the best CHF in the comp. Brown against kenny with kenny's his current form/mobility would be a slaughter. Only good thing is its at ammi, so he wont be isolated, we'll have bassett infront of him at every chance. Saints arent that good, melboune at the MCG are unbeatable, except against the dockers of course.

I am well aware of Brown's game against Essendon and his qualities but McGregor has exceptional record on him and I am confortable he will negate Brown well enough.

McGregor has been in form slump since he injured his achillies but still managed to play exceptionally well against Tredrea

You're right of course there Stiffy. McGregor has an outstanding record against Brown - as good as any CHB I would imagine.

He's struggling for mobility with that nagging injury at the minute, so hopefully it comes good in the next week or so.

We could beat Brisbane at Footy Park at our best - but it would have to be our very best.

macca, at the start of the year I have said that this year will be all about breaking club records both good and bad and on that basis I am confident we will beat Brisbane because we haven't beaten them in a long time :D

Seriously, I think we can match them if not beat them in the midfield. I am sure Craig would want to beat them after out debacle last time we played them and as such he would put more time into this match than he normally would. I also think that he wouldn't let Voss run around like unregistered dog like Ayres did in that final.

Of the 3 games I think Brisbane game is the one which we are most likely to win ;)

Why? Hawthorn mauled them.

Mcgregor is the best defensive CHB, before this injury, but JB really is a champ, should be a good contest. I really think we will match up well against the sainters, they might have it on us in the middle though, and the fact it is in melbourne doesnt help.

While wins and losses are the ultimate judgement of a team, I think just how we play and how close we can get in these three games will be almost as important.

With the development of the list and our style of game, I think even if we only go 1/3 or 0/3, it will not be the end of the world, as long as we don't get blown out of the water and continue to improve.

Sure, we'd all like to keep winning and maintain a top 4 spot, but let's be realistic, it probably isn't going to happen.

But if we can continue to play good footy, keep playing with some measure of confidence, we can continue to have a good season, irrespective of the results of our next three games.

As mentioned, in our last 13 rounds, there are only really 2 matches which are going to be very unlikely that we can win (IMO). Geelong at SS and WC at Subi, the rest we should be a reasonable chance (injuries aside) and hopefully with our run home, we can build some confidence and maybe snag a finals position.

Cripes, ant. Where's the usual negativity we know and have come to love.

:p

I wasn't sure I was being too negative!

To cut a long story short, we'll probably lose all of our next three games, but as long as we don't get flogged, we might be able to sneak into the lower reaches of the eight, as long as we don't get any injuries to any key players.

As good as I can do
