Loss against the pies has thrown blues out, but there is still a chance to get a good start to the season for carlton.
Next 2 games are on the road against Port and Dockers,
Then 2 games against Hawthorn and tigers

Carlton need to win 3 of the next 4 games.. I'm thinking that the Port game will be very difficult.. may be able to jag a win against dockers, and must win the other 2.

Season 05 finals chance will be very slim otherwise.

thoughts ?

By their performance today i think we will win port and freo but lose to the hawks and the tigers! That's the kinda team we are. Lose the matches we are expected to win and then win games plucked outta our arse

I'm shocked at how many people are thowing in the towel, waving a little white flag.

FFS, it's only Round 3! I do not like the idea that people are already giving up on our next two games, heaven forbid if the players think the same. Might as well give up already and not play football anyone with this attitude.

Yeah right!

The next two rounds are very tough, but we should try everything to win them both. I shudder at the thought of coming into a game expecting a loss, because you shouldn't... let's just hope the players get a crack and try to win. Because it will be worse if the team "expects" to lose and hence doesn't work has hard as if they thought they had a chance. That in turn will make us even less confident, something that we should not risk. Never say die, we are a better team than this. Our forward line is better than this.

It's time I think for the players to take some risks, because what do we have to lose? We'll probably get beaten anyway so there's no harm in trying. Fevola needs get his head checked and realise that he shouldn't be using his impressive Wizard Cup form to rate himself. We have a whole 19 rounds ahead of us, and a lot of the games, in particular the last eight, are winnable.

Back ourselves like we did against Essendon and BELIEVE. Get angry, be aggressive and burst out in the first quarter. We'll need something like this and more to get back on track. Until then, grind. The team and our supporters shouldn't lose hope - especially not so early in the season. I'd figure there would not be many white flags had we beat a non-rival. The bittermess of losing to Collingwood has clearly transformed some of our thoughts to become a pessimistic pool full of predictions of doom and mediocrity.

Well, I'm not one of those people. The players need to beleive in themselves, and moreso each other. Most importantly, they must beleive they are a chance in ANY match, even against a top side on their dung heap.

Tredrea may kick a bag and Stevens might be tagged so heavily that he will become ineffective - hell, Fev might even have another shocker. But there are 20 others out there who have the ability to cause an upset - they just need to back themselves. And you need to too, never throw away a match. I feel throwing the towel at this stage is foolish, weak and premature. Think of it what you will.

you should beat tiges and hawks. The other two will be very difficult for you. If the freo was here I would back you. If you win 3 of the next 4 i would be very happy if i were you but wouldn't be dissapointed if you only had 2 out of 4

A great post about the power of positive thinking Thrawn, but the cold hard reality is that we don't have the tall defenders to cope with teams that have big marking forwards, like today with Rocca and Tarrant dominating the 2nd half.

True we had Thorton and Livo out today but even with them in the side, a team like Port is really going to stretch our lack of height. On today's effort Morrell and Norman are really not up to being bit players down back let alone key defenders. Sporn shows promise but he was just too loose today. Teague battles hard and often plays tall but I would prefer if he was another 10 cm's. Carrazo gets the ball OK but lets himself down with poor kicking.

Until we draft/recruit or develop a couple of tall defenders we will struggle to be finalists let alone good enough to be considered a top 4 and a flag chance.

This is the way I say it -

*We need to win atleast one away, either against Port or Freo - I would predict the latter*

Then we need to beat Hawthorn and Richmond.

However, this plan is a long way from occuring.

What I would like to see from the Port game?
- Fevola to gather some form.

I think we were outcoached in the second half.

Malthouse rotated the rucks from centre half forward which isolated Tarrant and Rocca, (who took centre bounces) and where french was filling space in the first half. it was taken in a brilliant move by man on man with Wakelin following Whitnall, when he went back.

The bench was utilised better with both Caracella and Davis, having immediate impact in the final 10 minutes.

At half time scoring shots were even and through the course of the game, the flaggies got the first 2 goals of every term, really we got done in a shootout.

I don't think that this team has the killer instinct in it, yet.

Think there was a bit of scoreboard watching especially in the third term, yet on previous form this year, i thought they would run over the top of them.

Look, it is a young side, with an obvious game plan (bang, bang, bang),
but would rather be exposed early and have a chance to iron out flaws than later in the season.

Lets keep it game by game fellas, it is a long season.

Talk it up all you like guys ... but the facts are, we have a side capable of contesting for a spot outside the bottom 4, and nothing more.

I will admit to being one of MANY who over estimated the hype surrounding the list preseason (espcecially after Wizard Cup), but if you're fair dinkum, have a look at our list compared to the other 15 clubs and honestly try and tell me that we're better then any more then 4 of them.

We have come as far as we can come on endeavour over the last year or so, and it is now going to take some time till we can honestly contest against the rest of the comp on a weekly basis.

We need 2 quality KP defenders (Livingston does not count till he proves himself), about 4 more quality midefielders (ala Melbourne's midfield), 2 quality forwards (if you think Whitnall and Fevola will lead us to glory, you are sadly mistaken), and another quality ruck till we have a hope in hell.

You can think all the postivie crap you like but this is just another rebuilding year for us, and if we don't continue to draft and plan for the future, we'll be in a lot of trouble.

Remember, most of us AGREED that we had the worst list by a mile a couple years ago. Things have changed since then, but not a whole lot.

I couldn't agree more. I just feel that whilst we can be competitive, our list will only take us so far. We have got a lot more to do to the list before we can be contesting flags again.

I will still be there week in, week out, as I'm sure most true supporters will be, however, when you have an ordinary list (as we do), and put in half-hearted performances such as what we did against the Pies, we will acheive nothing, and by accepting this, we become the supporters of other historically medicore sides such as St Kilda, Dogs and Tigers (of recent years).

I for one will never let this happen to myself. I believe we have the right coach guiding us forward and believe he's done a remarkable job thus far, however, it's gonna be long haul yet, so get ready.

we aren't going to win many games when our delivery to the forwards is that **********. collingwood looked so much more dangerous when going forward. and i would like to get your thoghts on why fevola isn't playin at full-forward leading from the goal square.

Mate Fev cant do a ********ING THING when he's being double teamed

WHAT THE ******** DO YOU WANT HIM TO DO WHEN THERE IS ANOTHER PLAYER BLOCKING IS SPACE.

Waite deserves more of a bake for his kicking then fev does.

At least Waite scord 3 goals and took 8 marks and tackled a few times. Can we stop using the excuse of double teaming. And i expect Fev to think of defensive duties. Like running after his opponent when his opponent has the ball. for example: Leigh Brown and Presti. Both players ran outta the backline and assisted in goals.

Fev had 5 tackles yesterday.

You say stop using the excuse of touble teaming

GIVE US A SOLUTION AS TO WHAT FEV SHOULD DO TO GET THE BALL

Like they did in the WC. Push all the fwd up to the 50 metre arch and then leave fev and his opponent one on one in the 50. That game style suits Fev.

You cant push players up when there is a loose man there.

We cant push numbers up because we have to push further numbers back. This means there will be a loose man in our 50.

We cant do anything about this until Livo and T-Bird are back and back them in on the one on one contests.

I want Fevola to stop carrying on like a women. I want him to run, I want him to hold his head up high and stop putting his arms on his hips, I want him to pull his socks up, I want him to encourage, I want him to be a leader.

His body attitude is ridiculous.

i have a gut feeling that we could beat port. They've got a few injuries, we do as well. This is a must win game.

Agree. They were thumped by the Crows, and we come in with a chance. Yesterday I thought that we had no chance against them, but they're injuries and suspensions will hurt them.
