I'm starting to edge towards us pulling another coach out of the mist ... rather than just pluck an obvious from the list of eligible candidates.

Maybe 55 year old Brendan McCartney is a look in? He seems to have a lot of the characteristics we loved in PW. I would be very interested in him.

Agree.. An interesting read in the Age by Wallsy. Basically stating Worsfold a great man but average coach.. And that McCartney would be a fantastic option.. Was at Geelong for 11 years and developed that list and then made the tough calls at the Dogs.. Look at them now. We all credit Beveridge and so we should but those kids with 50 games under their belts success this year must have plenty to do with McCartney. Walls also explains he only lost his job cause the old players weren't having fun so rebelled against him..
If we can get Pyke, keep Campo and move heaven and earth to get McCartney as DOC, that is a sensational coaching group.

I think it would be a blessing if we miss out on woosha as head coach, people forget he was tired and struggling to keep up with the game at the end of his WCE tenure , I'd love him to stay as DOC . Im hoping for Pyke but no doubt there will be someone less obvious as well. I'll trust the club to make the right call

I'm actually more concerned about our trade period , we have to nail it this year and be fairly compensated if we lose danger....this has me more on edge than the coach selection

If Woosha rather goes to Essendon then **** him. Years of failure, intrigue and sullying his reputation await.

Pyke, if we land him, is a solid choice. Clearly has a grip on the modern game. Let's hope he's a leader of men.

McCartney ye No sorry. I'm not one that subscribes to the theory that a current coach is having success because of what the previous coach did.

If the previous coach did it right he would have had the success and unfortunately he didn't. Also think they way the Dogs play now is better than it was under McCartney, credit must sit with Beveridge no one else.

Seems to me that McCartney is a Sando clone and had players rebel. If we are considering McCartney then you must also consider Sando:eek::eek:

As Craig Crowing said earlier I highly doubt there are interviews to come . I think we already have our man. It's been 2 and a half months.. We have an ultra professional CEO who would know the importance of announcing the coach immediately after the GF so we are disadvantaged trade week or with the PD decision.

I thought you just wrote that pathetic rant bagging basically every Person on Bigfooty for having an opinion? Not sure why you are commenting

Mmm, hypocrisy, I love it.

Can someone get in touch with the AFC Board of directors and tell them that the selection committee for the new Crows Coach has not idea what they're doing. The committee that selects, reviews skill set and then goes through the interview process with prospective applicants aren't best placed to choose the new coach.

Please tell them there are some on the Crows Big Footy forum that are much more experienced in choosing the applicants, they are in a better position because:
1) they have never had any contact with prospective applicants nor have they had any personal contact with any applicants.
2) are better placed because of what they think or read in the media.
3) have an intimate knowledge of these applicants strengths and weaknesses because of points 1 & 2 above.
4) won't be involved in the interview process so are better placed to identify the new coach.
5) don't know any of the applicants knowledge on the game, game plans, or thoughts on the direction of the game and what we need to build towards.

Crows interim coach Scott Camporeale is still uncertain if he will seek a place in the final interviews. He also is not sure if he will remain at Adelaide where he is out of contract and was to have been replaced by West Coast assistant Justin Longmuir under Walsh’s original plans.
Which goes against what Walsh supposedly said at the mid year review that he wanted Campo's contract extended.

I hadn't seen that article ...

I like it, and I agree.

Ask any WC supporter and they will tell you - DOC yes, coach no.

It is Rucci, but I wouldn't be surprised either way. Our midfield has had the same problem for a while and we can't blame it on Sando's 'win the stoppages at all costs' game plan anymore. At some stage, Campo needs to take responsibility for his area of expertise.

I think we can have both. The DOC not to tell the senior coach what to do but to manage the coaches.

Wasn't the club concerned with how much Walshy was doing?

No, we don't want it

You want a senior coach that can take charge and manage his team

DOC = we have appt an apprentice coach

Im pretty annoyed our clubs admin appears to be outdone by Essendons for the services of Wossha.
For our club to be picked second to that rabble of crackheads is concerning.
Perhaps the club got a look and didn't like what it saw?

What's interesting is with the footy dept spending cap, having a DOC would imply that something else might be deprived of funding. Unless we pay the tax, although I'm not sure how high the level would be it's not as obvious as the players salary cap.

I'm not sure if director of coaching has to be the title but with an expanded football department I can see a role for someone that sits above or alongside the head coach, I think the job expected of a coach will get bigger as things advance and at some point the current role will become too much.

It could allow a team to appoint somebody who is outstanding in the crucial areas but perhaps isn't the best in another area. Rather than having a coach who is just good in all areas or letting an area slip because the coach isn't an expert in that area.

More importantly it could reduce say 10 individual meeting into one between the director and head coach.

Totally agree though that if the head coach isn't up to it in game day stuff or managing a group of players during the week he's not the right person for the job.
