this is a very interesting prospect... the super star, brownlow medalist, Norm smith, copeland trophy etc.. who is highly regarded by everyone that has half an idea about or;

the tuff as diamonds human wrecking ball, whilst not recieving many accolades, is very highly regarded in playing, coaching and media circles.. will also have assistant coach on his resume by the time we need a replacement for mick...

this will be a massive decision for us when the times comes...

my choice would be to toss a coin as i could see BOTH being 20 year multiple premiership coaches...

curious as to what the rest of the collingwood folk think?

That is just too hard to contemplate right now. It would be like choosing your favourite child!

We all had Bucks earmarked as the next coach, but probably didn't consider Burnsy at the time. He will get straight into coaching as an assistant, Bucks is doing another year in the media but has it all mapped out too.

Hmmm... I guess it's a good problem to have one day. Could they share the role? :D
(sorry I am no help)

this is going to be a terrible situation when it occurs... i mean seriously.. imagine when eddie and co are interviewing the candidates... im guessing both will be of the highest quality in terms selling of selling their blueprint to collingwood...

makes me sad just thinking one will be selected ahead of the other... if only co-coaching was a reality....

HOPEFULLY NEITHER!!!

I hate the idea of ex players and champions of the club coaching the same team they played at. sorry just not my style! Tony Shaw still haunts me!...

but bucks and ssb are not tony shaw... one of these two will do a worsfold or roosy for our club.. wait and see...

still though, after TS, i can see why you wouldnt want us to follow this path again... but i dont think there are too many ex-players of bucks and burns calibre....

yes but shaw was a premiership captain/norm smith medalist in 90, and just looked like he could be an amazing coach.. how do we know what bucks or burns will be like as senior coach?

Correct me if I'm wrong, i just remember my Dad saying something about this...
I think that whole captaincy sorta failed because Tony had just retired & was now coaching. To the players he was now coaching he was still like their "drinking buddy." The players probably didn't have as much respect for him because he was their mate.
Buckley on the other hand, I don't think, is like that. I doubt that the players would think of him as their "drinking buddy." They have so much respect for him. He's also spent time away from the club, so that's good. He is friends with these guys because he's played with them but if he was coach I'm sure he'd be able to look past that & focus on winning the game & a flag.

TESS- Bucks wont be our next coach > he will come after the next coach, whoever that maybe and whenever that maybe.......

what makes u say that? i think mick will be at the helm for 2-3 (you'll agree with stint after he brings us the flag next year) more seasons by which time bucks would have hopefuuly expanded on his coaching abilities through stints at high profile sporting clubs such as manchester united or some other high profile soccer club ( i say soccer club because i recently heard clarkos rolling zone was learnt while spending time in the EPL)....

the next collingwood coach will be an ex- magpie player... and choco williams is not that person...

Love Sotty Burns but for me Bucks is the answer for sure.
1)Makes more sense than any other spec comments person in the game, even though his competition is Robert still in the 80s Walls and Malcom im so eccentric i should have a scarf on in summer and a pair of driving gloves Blight.

2)Gives explanations and reasons for what is happening in a game and is usually correct.
3) How do you think the boys would be expected to train and prepare under Bucks? Just like he did i would imagine.
4) Wouldnt tollerate crap of any kind.
5) Is new enough out of the game to know the very good oposition players strengths and weakness
6)is calm and collected not flustered and a prove media performer.
7)would not play favs and make hard calls when needed for sure.

The only issue i would have is Eddie and Bucks together at the club, dont know why but if Bucks got the job i could see tension happening, just a gut feeling.

How about and this my get me killed on here.

But Brad Scott to take over after MM and have one of or both Burns and Buckley as his main assitants.

Brad Scott will be a very good senior coach hopefully he gets McKennas senior assitant position.

I'd say it all dependes on their work coaches etc. For example if Burns goes and does wonders at a team as an assistant over the next couple years and hangs it up and Bucks is still doing media it's a no brainer.

If both go and do solid apprenticeships and both want the top job at Collingwood it's a bit harder, fact is there is no garuntee one or either wants to come back as a coach of the pies as yet. I think Burns will get runs on the board early if he goes straight into an assistant role at Geelong.

My tip, the dream of BF posters will end when Buckley isn't appointed our next coach. Who will be remains to be seen.
The idea that just because Buckley is a good at special comments he will automatically be a 20year premiership coach is far fetched. I'm all for him being our coach at some stage if he is the best candidate. Due process is key here, just because a couple of former Collingwood champions are maybe looking for senior coaching roles one day shouldn't entitle them to automatic selection when MM retires or is fired.

Bucks will coach, Bursny will be his number 2.

When Bux' boys are drafted, Bux will go to footy manager and Burnsy will slide into coach after 10 premierships together.

If Buckley coached for say 20 years, that would be enough time for his kids to be well and truly into the football world.

Has a coach ever coached their own son even two ?
