In light of Maddinson and Burns scoring centuries in this round of the shield and how brittle the batting order is looking for the test team with Clarke's immediate future suddenly in doubt, let's discuss the next-gen test batsmen for Australia. Which young batsmen are you following? Which ones do you think will make it?

Voted Lynn because I think he has the greater scope in terms of genuine star power, but all of the top 3 should be safe bets. Patterson and Maddinson I'm far less sure about, and while Head could be a solid prospect I feel he's a fair way off. Average is still under 30, so he needs a very solid run.

Lynn would be my first pick but I think both Silk and Burns will make good test cricketers.

I'd have Handscomb in front of the rest. Even though he only averages in the low 30's he looks solid as a rock and it seems to be coming together for him. Just needs to give up the gloves. I don't understand Cricket Victoria making him keep.

I kinda feel the same about Wade, I would like to see him ditch the gloves and become a feisty little left handed middle order batsman. He's scored 2 centuries at test level and his first class numbers are great for a keeper/batsman; Average: 39 with 7x100 and 26x50.

Lynn looks a gun who can blast attacks, but his footwork is very average at times

id have Handscomb in front as well as, he isn't a batsman that will blast an attack all over the park. he can build an innings, good footwork, scores at a good pace, by just knocking the ball around & finding gaps in the field.
like his current innings, both batsmen are not out
Handscomb 100, 161 balls SR 62.11 with only 4 boundaries
Christian 61, 127 balls SR 50.39 with 7 boundaries and a 6

We've been crapping on about Lynn and Burns for ages.. when are they actually going to do something.

Burns just hit 183.

Sheffield Shield batting average of ~43.
Not bad.

Lynn has done well, he just keeps getting injured.

He had a poor run after coming back from injury (not exactly unexpected), which dragged his average down. But IIRC he was in good form toward the end of last season.

I reckon if you asked 24 months ago everyone would of said Maddison.

Hughes and Lynn for me.
