The Liberals don't pay for the best. The Liberals pay to reinforce what the Liberals already want to hear. Frankly they might as well write it themselves - everyone else is an unelected bureaucrat after all.
That is how they ran government as well.

I think we need to rewind a few years for the more apt comparison. Ley is Theresa May, a milquetoast, boring politician who got in because they didn't want to pick the more bombastic figure, but too uninspiring to ever do better than tread water. Well Done Angus and Jacinta the sellout represent different aspects of Boris Johnson, just minus all the charisma.
I think like the Conservatives, the Liberals will eventually toss Ley to the side and ride the Angus/Jacinta rollercoaster. And when that inevitably goes **** up, they'll scrape the bottom of the barrel and find their own Truss and Sunak. Then the last Liberal MP left in the building can turn out the lights.
