If Mick was to hang up his whistle at the end of 09' who would be your pick for the role of head coach from 2010 on, and how long would you give them on their first contract? BUCKS aside (i just don't see the great man becoming our head coach, i hope i'm wrong) I personaly (and i know people don't like this guy) would like to see Choco Willams be brought back into the fold. Your thoughts?

I really want Bucks to coach in 2010, but I don't think it'll happen. MM and Choco are quite similar but Choco got Port a flag so I wouldn't be against Choco coaching us. If Choco became coach I'd give him a 3 year contract, expecting him to get us a flag.

I would like to see Scott Burns

Do you think Burnsey will make a good coach? I personaly don't know the guy but from what i've seen over the years he seem to be one of those blokes let his actions do all the talking. Then again Bomer Thompson is a very quietly spoken person and just look at what he's achieved with the Cats.

Not at the moment - Done nothing Special with the VFL boys

I think you under estimate his role and what he as a reserves coach would be instructed to do... in other words Gavin is to prepare certain players for certain roles in the AFL... quite different than having his own say completely.

The players that have come from the VFL and stepped up to AFL speak enough for me that he is doing a wonderful job.

Brian... Mathews could be the go, Collingwood have sort of mended their rift with Leigh in Christian sort of way

Brad Scott.
yep if we get a new coach Brad scott or hardwick.

Williams un-accountable handball at all costs gameplan wont work when it matters.

Buckley wants to be an assitant first.

So go for one of two very hard and smart task masters

Brad Scott.

If not Buckley which will most likely be the case, Brad it is...

Off topic and hope someone can clarify. I tried adjusting my signature and it came up with this message
"Your signature cannot be longer than 35 characters including BB code markup."

Do I need a membership as I have seen others with more text than 35 characters or am I just doing something wrong?

Yep you need to pay for the extra large sig

Even if he wanted to, I would not let Choco coach Collingwood.
I still cannot forgive him for making Nick Stevens go to Carlton.
He still seems to have a lot of resentment towards Collingwood.
He is coaching the team where he belongs.
His old man was a Port Adelaide great and he started there as a player.
His blood is Port Adelaide and not Collingwood.

He as Captaiin shopped himself around to Carlton essendon and richmond

mnatthews cottoned on and sent the bastard to Brisbane.

Choco is where he belongs with all the other vermi that come out of port

If you had ever heard him speak about the game on the radio (was a regular on 927) you would know that he has a very astute football mind & imo is a senior coach in waiting. Next year would be too soon though so I'd be keen on someone like Hardwick or even John Longmire.

If you heard this bloke talk footy in person, you'd want him signed up tomorrow.

Williams un-accountable handball at all costs gameplan wont work when it matters.

You mean the game-plan that took them to a flag in 2004? (check the difference between their earlier "choke-O" seasons and 2004 - handballs skyrocketed).

The game-plan WCE then copied and won a flag with in 2006?

The game-plan Geelong copied in turn and won a flag with in 2007?

I know you don't like Williams' character, and that's fine, but he's the man responsible for "modern football".

Both geelong and West coast also had harder more accountable game plans. Yes they handpassed but they also won there oen ball and then used better skills not waited for a mistake and capitalised.

In 02, 03, 07 finals series his game plan collapsed, in season 05, 06 and 08 his gameplan collapsed. Ask any port supporter they will tell you their major problem is Mark Williams its the minority over there that like him.

I admit i think the guy is a flog, but it wasnt his gameplan that West coast and geelong copied.

Geelong and WCE had harder players. You can't make Maxwells out of Lonies.

That's what I was pointing out - go back to 02 and 03, and you'll see they were a very low handball team. It's only in 04 when they drastically upped them and changed their gameplan that they won.

In '07, they were incredibly lucky to even make the GF with that list. I don't think there's any qn they overachieved.

I'm a bit undecided on Williams. I think the guy can coach but whether the staff and players can form a good working relationship with him is another matter.

I must admit I'm a bit of a fan of Brad Scott. There has been nothing but good reports coming out of Lexus about him and he just strikes me as the right type - hard at it, no nonsense and knows success.

His recruitment led to this though. He did get Boak but really likes his outside midfielders

In 02 and 03 he lost to a harder and less skilled kicking team, in 01 he lost to frawley's richmond.

In 07 he made that list again, some say we were lucky to make the 02 GF be we never capiulated like they did and our coach didnt make outlandish claims for a month proceeding it.

Another reason not to choose him is we know his tricks, Hardwick and Scott are new boys. I also dont like Williams off field his onfield spat with his manager in round 22 about getting a job in Melbourne a leopard never changes his spots

Opti, we're not going to agree on much re: Choco, but I do want to ask why you're such a big proponent of Hardwick?

Yeah lol we dont agree on everything but the debate is always good:thumbsu:

Why i like Hardwick?

Hmm i see lots of simarlarties to clarkson, ive also spoken to some hawk players i know through friends and the guy is meant to be a wiz behind the scenes, he is no no nosense type of guy but all the players respect and love him he also had a big part in the making of "clarkos cluster".

He too me along with Scott seem the most likely of the assitants going around at the moemnt to succeed ala Worsfold and Roos. TBH i was surprised that Harvey, Ratten and McKenna all got roles before hardwick and Voss before brisbane even spoke to scott or hardwick.

I know hardwick was a little parasite on field and we all hated him, but he seems to be massive for contested footy and hard at man and ball whilst having skills and using them

So true it's been a massive, massive task. He just didn't start a new role as head coach but a new coach for a new start up team.
