Truer words have never been spoken, and for me the answer lies in that simple quote.

Jack is born to lead, but unfortunately he may be slightly too young if Boomer was to give it up this year.

I have total confidence that the club will choose the right person though. Seeing how they interact behind closed doors would be a big indicator.

Also as a side note, the club need to take advantage of the name Ziebell having a 7 in it.

Can I have what you smoken??

I love the Idea of Swallow as Capt, and Ziebell as his v capt.

Class and grunt.

Patch Adams, has already captained (Vic metro ?) and by all accounts is an excellent leader and he could be a long term prospect. Leadership ability outweighs playing ability IMO 'cos you need the respect of the playing group to be able to influence them.

Players would be scared s**tless when they see Jack leading the team out for battle. He would be fantastic for our club with his courage and sheer determination! Get him in fellas!

Make Swallow do all the media stuff and conferences ;) Let jack lead the team out to battle every week :thumbsu:

Ziebell is in a league of his own. He's born to lead, through actions and words. He's so vocal already, our coaches seriously can't believe it. He pushes through the pain barrier further than anyone else on the list.
When he's on the bench he still remains in the game, he walks the sidelines still staring out to field so not to miss anything, he barks orders and words of encouragement and feels the players high and lows as they unfold.

Let me tell you, our coaches can't believe this kid, we have something special with Ziebs, give the kid the role and watch him thrive off it and his team mates off him.

He's special.

I knew it when I first saw him.

Agree, Jack emanates leadership, authority and an warrior like aura. You get that confident feeling that the troops will do fine in a battle under his wing.

He is special. He will be our captain, if not this round, he will be one in the next round!

I voted for Jack, but I'd be happy if he was VC to Andrew. From an outsider's POV, not having JZ as captain through the peak of his career seems like a waste of what looks like natural leadership ability. And it wouldn't really feel right to take the captaincy of Spitta at 28 so Jack could take over.

Earlier in the year I wanted Petrie to take over the captaincy due to the fact that I wanted someone who makes the team walk taller when he's around.

After the last 10 weeks of football I want Jack to be the captain. Spitz is a very worthy candidate but Jack is a born captain, and he is one right now.

I voted For Swallow, has a lot of class and would be a great leader.

But after reading what has been said here, I have a big woody for Ziebs, I agree he show all the qualitys of a long term leader and a person you would follow in to battle.

Don't forget the "great Wayne Carey" was skipper at 21.
cannot wait of 2012.

The time definitely feels right for Boomer to hand over the captaincy.
No doubt.

Boomer is a fantastic captain off the track and a positive influence for the younger guys but he now has a few more things to worry about. His mind won't be as open next year as he will find everything physically (and thus mentally) tougher. I am not sure if I want to risk seeing a captain of my club act the way Boomer did last Satdy night either.

Love him and I feel dirty saying this but he is not in the league of Simmo and Stevo when it comes to these things. Hope he surprises me though but with Stevo and Simmo you knew they'd put the clubs interest before themselves, but with Boomer I am just hoping.

Boomer has well and truly done his bit and he should now be plonked in a forward pocket and told to try and get as many goals per game as he can.

No more dishing off to bring kids in to the game, as soon as he is in range, he should have a shot. It woulldn't surprise me to see him kick 50-60 goals a year.

Who should be the 2012 Captain?

I understand we have a number of threads with user commentary on who should be the captain in 2012, but I'm interested to see the votes.

Logically there are three options; I think Ziebell has so much going for him but after half a season of performing he has time to develop before he is at the level of the other three candidates, remember Swallow has been top 3 B&F 3 years running including 2 medals.

Re: Who should be the 2012 Captain?

Voted for Drew, I think he deserves 2-3 years as captain, then over to Spits or Ziebs. Do believe there should be a Ziebell option in the poll though.

Re: Who should be the 2012 Captain?

I suppose Harvey and Scott's recent comments makes this slightly more topical and timely for the lead in to 2012, up to the mods if they want to keep this up.

Threads merged benno. Play on.................and you're right, seeing January's around the corner, and that's the aforementioned time of the coach/captain pow wow on the subject, it's timely to bump this sucker anyway.

I have got this guy's number on the back of my north melbourne jumper, on a cup that was sent out to me last year and on the back of my iphone 4. Who is it?
Andrew Swallow of course. Nice guy as well.

Dont mind if Harvey keeps it.

Otherwise Petrie or Swallow.

Ziebell might come into calculations in 2013 (assuming Harvey holds it).

would it be terrible if we gave goldy a vice/leadership role?
he has a massive impactat training and on game day
why not reward it?

In my opinion, there's two paths he could take to prolong his career: the forward pocket, or the green vest. Which would you say is the better option for the team?
