Thoughts?

And dont tell me anything about them being too young. The leaders are the ones who have a dip every week, aall 7 of those guys do.

Id add Scully in there too, if hes still with us.

Replace Watts with Scully and it looks pretty spot on.

Still not sure about who should be the captain though. I'd probably go with Moloney over Frawley at this stage with the view of having Trengove/Scully/Grimes as the long term captain when they are ready.

Seriously do clubs need leadership groups. Captain, VC and Deputy VIce Captain. Real leaders at clubs have been that, real leaders. They don't need a club.

Hope the Club gets ride of Green and swaps of Rivers somewhere this year. Both have had their day at this club.

Agree with the OP's list except for Moloney.

Our senior players leadership is garbage (not saying Moloney is a terrible player), id rather give it to all the kids and let them dictate the future and create a new culture.

We cant have a drunk in charge of the group. We stand for nothing right now.

Yep, go for broke. Give it to Trengove, Mckenzie and Grimes. They are the future. Let them do it their way.

I like Frawley as an option for captain, I really do, but there is a reason we never see him in front of the media. He can't speak. Grimes is the man for me. Leads on the field and speaks wonderfully well in the media. Well liked by everyone at the club and has loved the Dees all his life. He's the man to take us forward IMO.

Grimes - Captain(fitness is the only ?, but has all the skills to be captain)
Trengove - Vice Captain(has done all the right things on and off the field)
Frawley - Vice Captain(leads by example)
Jones - Leader(has relished being a leader this year, deserves another go)
McKenzie - Leader(a must for the leadership group next year)
Moloney - Leader(we don't need a drunk as captain, but remains in group)
Jamar - Leader(hardly spoken about, but surely a leader)

Watts will definitely be a leader at the club in the future, but right now, he should just concentrate on improving his game year by year. Has had too much pressure on him already in his career. His time will come.

Scully would definitely be in the leadership group, but IMO, he is out the door at years end.

Green and Davey can concentrate on getting the ball and have shown no leadership this season when required most.

Sylvia and rivers should be moved on at years end. You could argue cases to keep both, but IMO, Sylvia has no leadership skills, has not lived up to anywhere near the potential he has, but still has major currency for trade.

Rivers is just a dud that needs to be moved on. Has shown no leadership on the field and gets beaten 1 on 1 far too easily for a senior player.

Moloney (c)
Frawley, Trenners (vc)

Forget the rest. I will spit chips if Greeny is still there...

Yep agreed. As much as I love him no Beamer for me.

Captain- James Frawley
Vice-Captain- Brent Moloney
Deputy Vice-Captain- Jordie McKenzie
Leadership Group- Jack Trengove
Leadership Group- Jack Grimes
Leadership Group- Tom Scully
Leadership Group- Stefan Martin

Rewarding McKenzie is an absolutely must and the club need to look a the new generation of Demons! The side is full of young-guns from the last 4 drafts that will get a premiership, so why is someone of yester-year (Green) appointed as captain when he won't be around for the next premiership. It is not like he is an inspirational machine that wins games of his own back and motivates others around him (J.Brown) so if he isn't there long term and there is a stack of players lining up, then he can step-down and concentrate on kicking goals and nothing more.

Good thread. People say that leaders will lead blah, blah.

Not so, younger players will tend not to lead obviously until given a position which requires them to do so.

A young leadership group could work wonders.

Frawley isn't right for captain. 1- he plays full back, rarely a good spot for a captain, and 2- his media work needs some work.

I know he didn't touch the ball for a half but Moloney has to be the captain. Put Grimes, Jones, Trengove, McKenzie etc around him, but Beamer is the leader of this group, let him lead.

Love Jones, reckon he's a great player and leader. But will he be in the Best 22 forever?

Have to have somebody who can talk right? This talk of Chip as captain....I remember when he was on TFS and he was being asked questions, he looked like the most uncomfortable man in the world, no confidence speaking whatsoever.

I'd give it to Trengove. Very confident young man IMO.

Mine would be

Rivers (c)
Moloney (vc)
Frawley
Trengove
Jones
Grimes
MacKenzie

I put Rivers as captain because I think he is a solid player and I like the way he speaks to the media. I really liked his honesty the other day saying that they didn't have any care. Sure it was hard to hear but I'd rather the truth then hearing Green laughing and saying the same s*** after every loss.

Grimes won't be made captain or vice captain until it's shown he can play out a full season. He hasn't done that yet what with all the injuries he's had. It's bloody unfortunate, but we can't have a captain who is in danger of succumbing to a long term injury every week.

Give him time...

Spot on about Grimes. I don't think any Melbourne supporter would complain if he was made captain, but until he gets his body right he simply can't be seriously considered which is a shame.

Surely the selection of Brad Green has tought everyone that talking to the media should be well down the priority list when selecting the captain?

Fk what everyone else thinks put the best leader out there no matter what. If they talk like a bumbling moron in the media we shouldnt give a shit as long as they're leading us to success.

Moloney gets in to trouble once in his career and he is a drunk?

Seriously some of you blokes need to put your emotions to one side when making suggestions. On the topic of the club not needing a drunk as a captain, it really hurt NM with Carey and carlton with kernaghan didn't it?
