I have been a big rap for Nicholson for quite some time. He bowls with hostility and is an extremely hard working cricketer. I think with Lee, Nicholson and Bichel we would have the bowling attack to plunder the Indians.

If they are going to get runs and bat for a long time lets at least make them earn it with some chin music. What we need to do is unsettle Shewag and Chopra and get into the middle order early.

I think Nicholson is currently bowling the best of his career so far ... certainly better than when he made his Test debut. I feel he deserves another chance. As you rightly observe, Nicholson is hostile, and the Indians really don't like facing that type of bowler.
I certainly wouldn't be disappointed to hear Nicholson's name in the Boxing Day Test XII.

In cannot for the life of me work out how WA managed to let Nicholson move back to NSW. From memory it revolved around some selection or other dispute with WACA management, basically he was only getting a game spasmodically. This is a year after Katich left cause he was disillusioned with their caper.

Our bowling lineup currently reads

Edmondson (third stringer from QLD)
Thistle (ok grade cricketer)
Thorp (ok grade cricketer)
Wilson (SA reject)

Anyone interested in Goodwin, Hussey or Rogers? Just get WACA management to pss them off and they're all yours!!

I think at least part of the reason for the departures (at least in Katich's case) was a fallout with WA coach Mike Veletta. He was sacked at the end of last season but the damage was done.

WA cricket is struggling in the first-class arena, especially when you consider how strong they were from the late 1960s to the late 1990s. They're odds-on to win the wooden spoon in the Pura Cup this season.

Nicholson? He's ok I guess. Got a nagging suspicion India are "playing him in".

I doubt they would be that cynical and devious, but they're intensity levels for this tour match are fairly low.

Apparently Ganguly only decided to play in this match at the last minute and it showed in his brief batting appearance where he seemed disinterested and played one lazy glide through slips for four and then got out to the same shot not long after.

And then after tea today, there was the sluggish batting of the Indian tail where No. 11 Nehra hung around for 23 balls for the grand total of 0 not out! Clearly India are treating this match as a practice match then as a full-on game.

Still, Nicholson bowled well today, considering Australia's injuries it wouldn't surprise if he was selected from nowhere for the Boxing Day Test, just as he was 5 years ago.

I must admit he did bowl well today, but I still don't think he is the best out there on offer. I was disappointed by Wright, but at least he claimed Tendulkar after that early taking to. I would still like him to be in the team, but he would need to bowl better than he did today. He can definately field at least.

I was quite impressed with Tait, I haven't seen him bowl before, but have heard of him. His sling-slot action is a good attacking one, and seems to be able to rip them in there. The only issue is that he was a bit expensive, so having him and Lee in the same team would be a gamble.

It still seems to me that Nicholson is a bit up himself, I don't base this on his attitude or anything really other than the way he looks and runs in :p. I still have a question mark over him though...what have his figures been of late in the Pura Cup?
