I can see the points about him being a tall so they take a bit longer, but if melbourne are moving him on they must of seen something fatal in his game that he will in all probability not be able to overcome.

Maybe, maybe not. White, Jamar and Johnson in front of him and he was going to struggle.

When you get to the rookie list, you're taking gambles, and I'd rather take a chance on a big guy, hoping they can come good in the right environment. Either that, or someone with an x factor like Pearce/Davey.

When all is said and done, most of the top notch talent is gone by the time we get to the rookie draft, so you're really cluthing at straws anyway.

I can definetly see us considering him for the rookie list. He has been in the system a few years now, suffered a lot of injuries along the way but generally his form in the VFL has been good.

With the long term injuries to Hentschel and Biglands, we need a ready to go big and Smith does fit the profile. He can play both KPPs and pinch hit in the ruck. When you think about it, rookie listing him would make some sort of sense. All that and he is still only 22. Thats around the same age when Hentschel, Rutten and Bock started to show something.

Worth a punt on the Rookie list IMHO.

Only when he is ready to get a game IMHO but yes he would be recruited as someone that can come in off the rookie list to replace Hentschel or Biglands who will be on the long term injury list.

AFC have said that they would look at someone who could come in and play straight away because of the long term injuries to Hentschel and Biglands. With Smith, you sort of kill 2 birds with one stone. He can play KPP and pinch hit in the ruck if we are really desperate for him to do so.

Definetly worth considering IMHO.

I wouldn't mind Brennan... Haven't seen Smith but I have always liked Brennan. Ok, he's not a KPP but I think he could do alright on a HFF or HBF. He's not very fast but has a good footy brain. Needs to tidy up his disposal at times though.

If you want a Melbourne supporters view he may be worth a rookie list spot as an insurance policy as a tall forward, but he's really not a ruckman.

Smith may be 195cm but he doesn't have a great natural leap unlike Jeff White and the only reason he spent time in the ruck this year at VFL level is because Paul Johnson spent most of the year injured.

Smith looked good when he started at the Dees, his stengths being strong hands and a reliable kick. His negatives being very little athletic ability, the turning circle of a mach truck and the tendency to fade in and out of games.

He spent the best part of the last few years injured and if he was to make it anywhere it would have to be full forward.
