"When kids come in and really step up the standard of training, it's good to see..."

I LOVE CARLTON!

Yes, stevens you are correct - it is going to be exciting times once these kids develop.

Good interview.

He actually admitted that Murphy, gibbs and co, will make it easier on his behalf re: tagging.

God he's soft! Can't wait to see how Murphy and Gibbs rip it up while having taggers on them.:p :p

We have to accept that Stevo was never going to be comfortable as the #1 midfielder, no matter what club he played for. He was probably the 4th or 5th best midfielder at Port & is probably not capable of ever being better than that. His value lies in the fact that he knows how to find the ball & mostly knows how to use it. His output will be greatly improved as opposition clubs start focussing more on Murphy & eventually Gibbs & then we will see what he is capable of as a skilful, outside midfielder.

Still think he'll attract the best tag next year MS. As good as Murphy and Gibbs could be, Stevens is still the number midfielder at Carlton.

Maybe a couple of years down the track he'll lose that status, but i think he has a lot to prove next year, and I think he might surprise a few people.

I agree. Stevens 2006 was poor, mainly because of ordinary preperation. When he's fit and motivated he is a top class midfielder. His forward-line delivery is at elite level. He looks a lot fitter this pre-season. A good sign. :)

I hope this is true so Murph and Gibbs are loose to run a muck!!!

Stevo is unecessarily taunted I think by a lot of bluebaggers. He is a natural leader and this year will be a big one for him. I have a lot of respect for the guy.

Lets not forget the dawning of Walker's midfield move. I was watching the 1995 premiership last week and I had forgotten how quick Kouta was in those days - Anyone who has seen Walker this preseason and his cannon legs can see that the prophecy is being fulfilled - There is another SkyWalker!!!

There is no way Stevens was the 4-5th best mid for Port. He was one of their best during that period, thus the reason why Port wanted so much for him, and why Port fans remain bitter about it now.

In saying that his value is that he knows hows to find the ball and knows how to use it, that is is pretty much the definition of what you want from a footballer. Get the ball and use it well.

Guys had a chat to one of Stevo's best mates the other day and it was interesting as to what he had to say about Stevens. I asked him what Stevens thought of he year and he said that he was bitterly dissapointed but it was a year in which he learnt the most in. We all know about his lack of accountability but he said that in the time where he was given stopping jobs he actually learnt the meaning of being a proper onballer and its not just a matter of racking up the possesions. Its about getting your hands on the ball and being affective as well as negating your opposition player.
The guys knows whats needs to be done this year and thats why he states that he has never been in better shape at this time of the year. I have always liked Stevo but i think that most Carlton supporters are way too harsh on him. The other day at training there were supporters watching and heckleing him every time he got the ball. I agree with SA Blue & in saying that i think that he can possibly be an elite midfielder in the comp. Why do you think that he was our 2nd B & F two years running when he was our only midfielder??? Because the coaching group knew what type of pressure he was under and still performed reasonably well.
Give him a chance and he will prove most supporters wrong.

Go Blues

Cheers

That's great to here. Hopefully he has a great 2007, he is a better person and player than most give him credit.

That's horrible that so called 'supporters' do that. I mean, yes i have written negative stuff about him on here, and i didn't like him this year at all, but to go to training, and just heckle a player is ridiculous.

Show some unity for God's sake. We're an odd bunch, us Carlton supporters.

Let me say first of all that my comments weren't a criticism of Stevo, just a statement of fact. I'm a big fan of the guy, but have seen enough to know that the mantle of #1 midfielder doesn't sit comfortably with him. At Port, though, he would have been rated behind at least Francou, Josh Carr & Roger James & perhaps even a young Shaun Burgoyne. Not a bad list of players to be just behind, all the same.

To be honest, I am sick of AWG constantly canning Stevens.

Leave him the f&$k alone. And that goes for the rest of you so called Blues supporter.

I hasn't been easy for the man to come to our clubs, especially in its current condition.

Cut him some slack.

i have to agree, imagin leaving port who were ready to win a flag and did to come to a club that was in as much trouble off field as it was on.

Stevo is a gun always was and still is.

you can say what you want but our team is not designed well enough yet to get the best out of a few of our blokes

I think there are parts of this email that make much sense. If Stevo has realised that he had deficiencies from having a tough year then this is fantastic. Hopefully he will grow as a person from this experience and really make the most of the undoubted skill he has.

However if he has realised this due to last year then it is fair that some Cartlon supporters also realised this last year and previous to last year and made note of it. Sure some were over the top but by the admissions his mate has revealed in this post it seems Nick agrees with some of these supporters now.
