Nick Stevens visited the Ballarat East Football Club (juniors) during the week, and the young kids got to throw some questions towards him. I wasn't there, but my cousins and uncle was.

They asked him, when will Carlton challenge for a flag and Nick Stevens replied within two years we will win a premiership.

Fair enough I thought when I was told, a player can't say within 6 years. But Stevens is a man with good experience, and it would be great if he actually believed we could win the flag within two years.

Other things he said, Whitnall and Fev are the two annoying people around the club.

And he said he has a cracked vertabrae and it's a 6 week injury.

Reading that only reminds me of a certain Hawthorn past coach who tipped we would be a flag threat a few years back. We haven't even been a final 8 threat.

Big difference between saying that to a group of kids at local footy club, as opposed to saying to the media I would have thought.

Why would you bother saying it at all is my point! Who cares if its directed at a group of kids or to the media, its a bold statement.

Perhaps good marketing...

You go talk to some kids that have not chosen a football team yet. You hear from a player that comes down to your school, we're going to be winners in a couple of years. The kid thinks I'm going to pick the Blues cos they're going to win the GF in a couple of years.

I know that's how I became a Melbourne Tigers supporter, Andrew Gaze came down to our school during his first year playing and basically sold the club and potential success to us. A lot of kids without previously even supporting a basketball team were now Melb.Tigers converts.

Smart! I retract my previous statement.

"Leadership/Captaincy" written all over him.:thumbsu:
Well said Nick.

Can't really see it happening in two years myself. Alot of things would have to go absolutely right for this to happen. I think next year might be our last year down around the bottom of the ladder, and 2008 I believe we could have a season like the Bulldogs are having this year.

yeah, i dont think anyone on here believes we're genuinely a chance for a flag in that time frame. realistically, finals is a more appropriate goal.

But good on nick from a promotional point of view. He's obviously been schooled a bit in PR.

see its strange with our team unlike st kilda with alot of players around the same age they will either be very strong then very weak... with carlton its very much scattered across the board so hopefully we can do it while we still have the more experineced players around.

What was his body language like, the tone of what he said etc.

But good on him for saying it - someone needs too sell the club and make people stand up and listen.

Naturally our first step is too construct a squad of players who will make us ultra competitive week in week out and as such will deliver confidence too all concerned.

From there fast track development can happen. After drafting hopefully well in the National Draft this year, we may well acquire a good pick up in the PSD.

From there 2007 could be very bright and give us some real enjoyment.

If he meant it, it must be a sign he would want to stay... no thoughts of being traded to C'wood.

Why wouldn't you be excited, something good is begining to happen to our list.... reminding me of Brisbane 2001 after we thumped them... they started to click.

Hopefully the off-season and pre-season that little thing continues to evolve and we have a great start to next season.

I wish it was 2007 already!

haha Nick Stevens, if he really wanted a flag would have stayed at Port, as for Carlton in the next2 years winning a flag? ewww, your list is awful

Do you know what team boards are for? Instead of clicking that you agree with the conditions of the site, you should have actually read them.

our list is very much under rated.. i think after bulldogs, melbourne we're proboly one of the most underrated lists in the comp

and for good reasons too. unless you watched every game this year (and even last) it would be hard to judge how far we have come. Most people just see the wins/losses and make a call based on that.

also, nice one Nick (if that's what he said)

Most the games weve lost this year have been through a total stop in 1 qtr. Solve that and we are back in the mix:thumbsu:

From memory the only team we just looked lost against was the saints but the rest we at least competed for a qtr here an there!!!!!

Another pre-season for some of the boys will help that out i hope

We have had peaks and troffs during games this year.

With another draft period and further development our SQUAD will have a higher skill set and further belief which can't be under valued, hence we will see a more competitive outfit most weeks next season.

Imagine adding a Gibbs to the list along with picks 17 and 19 and bring in Murph.

Add Bower, Hartlett too the list in defense.

Lance goes forward with Fev, Kennedy, Fisher, Waite, Betts etc.

Rotate in Raso, Jackson, Edwards, Flint etc depending on their pre seasons and spot on the list etc

And add a descent PSD player and anything is possible.
